Speaking of measuring; how are they doing?

September 2-3, 2013 - 17 Days Old....

Because I thought I was over fertilizing, I backed off to about 100 ppm and things got worse. Jane's lower leaves starting getting rust colored spots which I took as a sign of under fertilization. But, at the same time Mary's lower leafs kept curling and drying at the margins, which I took as over fertilization. Getting very confused at this point.

In the mean time, Eeny, Meeny and Miny are all sprouted.

CC,

I think it is time to transplant Mary and Jane, they are getting to large for those cups. My guess is that they are beginning to root bind.

Just a thought,

Peace out,

GR

Hey GR,

Thanks for the tip! Actually, the guy I'm following on YouTube, HygroHybrid, has some monsters in solo cups, so I don't think that's my problem at this point in the game. But yes, by the time I transplanted them, they were absolutely root bound. (I'm a few weeks behind in my updates, and am trying really hard to bring things up to date, but things have gone from Not So Great to Not Good At All , and I'm constantly chasing my tail here.) The plants are all actually growing very well now, but some other BS has thrown a wrench into things here. You don't know the half of it. More on that later.

How is your grow coming along? I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but I plan on it when things calm down here. It's all I can do to keep up with weekly posts as it is. How far along are you?

Gotta jet. Thanx for checking in!

Cheers,
CC

September 3, 2013 - I realized I made a rookie mistake, in that I didn't soften the Coco Pellets up after soaking them. This made it very hard for the roots to grow through the medium, thus stunting their vegetative growth. So, I cracked 3 more seeds that evening, or started soaking them that is. Additionally, I soaked the Coco Pellets in a mild nutrient solution, rather than the plain 6.0 PH R. O. water I used with the other seeds. (HygroHybrid said that seedlings don't need nutrients initially, but I thought it couldn't hurt.)

I figured the only logical names I could give these three after Eeny, Meeny and Miny, is Moe, Larry and Curly. Nuk Nuk Nuk! Also, Moe has a little secret...he's a White Widdow! Larry and Curly are still from the same Afghan Kush x Black Domina package.

It would appear that my theory was correct, evident by the size and health of the three Knuckle Heads compared to the previous three.

What kind of light schedule are you running now? I'd go 24/0 but YMMV...

Yes SME, I'm running 24/0 light. Thanx for the tip and confirmation that I'm running a proper vegetative lighting schedule.

Happy Growing,

August 8, 2013 - Photo update....

Mary and Jane seem to be doing better, but there's definitely room for improvement.

I started noticing physical differences between Mary and Jane. Mary appeared darker than Jane under the SolarStorm (Can't see it in the photos, must bee seen directly). I noticed that the SolarStorm LED lighting enhances the plants visual appearance which helps in early detection of some health issue signs.

In addition, their leaves seemed different as well. Jane having more margins than Mary, while having a different shape as well. This is where things start to get screwy as hell. More on this later, but this would explain the different reactions to the same nutrient solution.

One of Moe's leaves appear to be dead at the tip and also has several yellow spots. I have no idea what is causing this. I'm guessing, not enough nutrients, as I've heard that White Widows have a veracious appetite. I increased the seedling nutrient concentration from 85 ppm to 200.

CC,

They are looking better, the new seedlings are getting a nice start. I might make one suggestion if you are not already doing so, they are growing tall so make sure you have a fan on them to strengthen the stems. Probably preaching to the choir.

Good luck,

GR

Hey GR,

Thanx for the suggestion. I had a Lasko 12" Oscillating Wind Tower at this stage of the grow. It's an awesome space saver as it fits in a corner of the grow space nicely. The only problem is, it only had about a 45 degree range of motion, which limited it's use to my very small plants which can be grouped closely together. I may look into other brands at some point for a full 90 degree range of motion version later on, but for now my Boston 9" Oscillating fan is working great for the space I'm utilizing.

Stay Green,
CC
