Absolutely. I supplement with CLW 220's in my room at about a 45 degree angle to get light to penetrate deeper into the canopy. They also make a mostly red HPS flower "Booster" 220 as well.
But as with anything you can do too much. So take a look at your total micro moles per day to know for sure. You can find info on how to do that on-line Google plant light requirements or something like that you might have to look around.
I think you are safe even on a 4x4 tray with a 1000watt HPS if you shoot the LEDS in at an angle like I Said. Then it just helps better develop the lower popcorn. For SOG and SCROG you have to subtract the LED par from the HID because the canopy is relatively planer.
