CWL 400w

Postby jdm » Sun Feb 09, 2014 10:29 pm

Hey SME, JDM here, we talked awhile back about leds. CLW is bringing new models on board at the end of this month. and guess what my budget just got bigger. I can get the 400w for $650. My tent is 51' long x 22.5' wide and 36' tall, so the 400w should work great for some short bushy plants.. My question is, do you think it will be be a good investment even though the model is being discontinued. I think , I should be able to get a more dense SOG or SCOG !! I bet by the end of the month the prices will drop even more at wholesalers that have these units on their shelves, I sure hope so.

hey jdm,

just curious, what models are being discontinued? and why?

you'll have to be careful with the height of your plants if your tent is only 3ft tall. you can get the light about a foot from the plants without issues which only gives you 2ft to grow in.

The SS400w will never cover 51" length properly either but you don't have to use it all for plants. You can use some of it for humidity control, fans, etc.. The SS400w is good for about a 2x3 area in flower.

RKY is right, 3 feet of headroom is going to be very difficult even for high density SOG with no veg time on the clones.

Maybe you can turn that tent on it's side and get 51" headroom and 2x3 for the plants?

Hey guys , I probably will need to upgrade tent . The CLW SS and SF models are being upgraded at the end of the month (2/31/14). For instance the 400w SS will become the 440w SS .The 200w will become 220w etc. They are increasing efficient & adding diodes. So I don't have a problem with getting the "older model " and saving $300 ( the 400w dual mode SSwas around $900,I can get it for $650). I have agonized over the right light to buy for a small grow and finally decided to go for the 400w SS.... like SME advised. In the long run it will be the best producer & the most efficient light I can get , despite the start up of $650. I look at it in terms of, it paying for it self. I will be able to produce my own HIGH QUALITY medicine for years to come.....

and has anyone heard of.... Viagrow 4 in. Carbon Air Filter 22-45 CFM Exhaust.

The cfm is low but my tent is only going to be around 35 to 45 cubic ft....I can get this carbon filter for $40 at home depot.

How about some advice on the quietest, in line 4 inch fan for low amount of cfm..

.I found this for $45

In-Line Duct Fan - 4 in.65 CFM - 120 Volts - Includes Junction Box and 6 ft. Power Cord - Suncourt SCDF4

Thanks for any info

if I were you, I'd step up to a 6" fan with a speed controller. Fans are usually better to have too much than too little and the price shouldn't be too much more. Maybe a used one on Craigslist, ebay, etc?

And if you ever want to go bigger, the six inch should handle your needs in the future

Well I am not going to really have any future needs for expanding to any flowering tent that is larger than 65 cubic ft. This is a small personal grow for my medicine. I know there are larger options. I am putting $$ in to light and all involved, so I am looking to save $ ...So on the simple $40 4' carbon filter and the $45 in line "DUCT " fan also 4' rated at 65 cfm .. Do you think I will be good on odor and air flow?

I learned that you want a fan to move 3X your cu.feet.

so approx 200 cfm would be the fan size you would need.

i don't have a link but there are sites where you type in your exact size and it calculates it for you

RKY is right, go bigger than you need and use a fan speed controller to reduce noise. The prices are pretty close although the controller does add an expense.

It's ~3 to 5 times the volume of the area... ;)
