Fair enough. I bet >2" ABS pipe would hold the weight if you designed it well.

I've been considering this option for expanding my veg tent. Smaller lighting fixtures though... :)

Something about them being hollow would just freak me the hell out. Having 3000$ worth of light hover on plants worth a lot more than that, all supported by hollow plastic? Nah. I couldn't sleep. I'd imagine the thing falling apart. Plus, once you glue PVC or ABS (and you'd have to for this), it doesn't come apart at all, you'd still have to cut through it to disassemble it. Also, with a wooden frame, I could just tack the orca film around it. With PVC I'd have to make some kind of seam or stitch.

Maybe I just like wood so much because I'm Canadian and I live surrounded by forests  Call it a cultural bias.

Technically, it could be done with PVC but I wouldn't. It wouldn't have to be glued, it could be just pressed together and hammered apart again but as Frank pointed out attaching orca film would still require some sort of internal structure. I wouldn't worry about it breaking but even 2" PVC would eventually sag from the weight and heat. Wood is pretty cheap and it's easy to work with. Those sound panels may not be so cheap. :P

It's like 40$ per panel. Really not a big deal. If you consider the Secret Jardin Intense 120 4x8 tent is 1100$ + shipping, my enclosure will be half as cheap and twice as sturdy.

Seedling #1's roots touched water yesterday and WOW! She has exploded overnight. She's literally twice the size of seedling #2, whose roots are not quite there yet.
Roots shooting out everywhere, too. Very cool.

I find 4x8 tents (other brands) for much cheaper here but YMMV... ;)

You're in Cali. Canadians get screwed a lot on prices here.

I have purchased a very small 2x2 tent in which I want to keep a mother, so I don't have to start from seed next time.

Can I make a clone out of my two plants before I switch to 12/12 and make a mother out of it?

Yeah, if you take cuttings before you switch to 12/12 you'll have clones for next round, and you can select a mother from the plant you liked best.

No sense telling us how good your plants look! Make with the root pics! jk (mostly)

I'd attach the panda/orca film to the pvc by wrapping it around 80% of the tube and taping it with either aluminum foil tape or duct tape. Then I'd use my heat gun to shrink the film tight like I do on my balsa RC planes... *shrug*

I'll let you all know how it goes if I ever get around to it. Might be worth letting Amazon build it for me if they have a cheap 4x4 or bigger.

If you do get around to it please let me know because I would be very interested in seeing the results :)

I'm not sure that panda or orca would shrink like that and you'd still have to figure out some sort of bracing for the roof sag...

Or you can use a dozen or so 2x4s screwed together and a staple gun to attach the film. I'm always up for checking out experiments though. :D
