Dustydirt's 250w hps micro tent

Postby Dustydirt » Fri Apr 12, 2013 9:06 am

I decided to create a journal about my little 16"x16"x4' hid tent...I'm growing Blue Dream from the Hso collective, one of the strains I also grew in my clw led journal. This is not a particularly high yielding strain, but has great qualities.

4 ft high was all the room I had in this space, that's why I went with such a small size. 188 watts/sq ft, which is rather intensive compared with the 60 or so in my other setup. probably would have been better to have a larger space to fill, but im just going to work with what i got and try to be super attentive to squeezing as much as i can out of the space. Ventilation is from a inline 200 Cfm fan w/ carbon filter, all external to Maximize interior space.

The clone was vegged slowly for a few weeks until being placed under hid for a few more days of veg and now is entering day 3 of 12/12. It was also topped and is undergoing lst treatment. I also bend the stalks manually to try to influence growth.
The first pic is from a few days ago, the next two were taken last night, one after I did some leaf tucking. I am considering turning it into scrog... Any ideas/opinions in whether that's a good idea at this stage? It looks like its filled about 50-60% of the space so far. 8-)

They seem to be short enough that you could SCROG them but since they're in flower already I'm not sure how full your screen would get. I'm not a SCROG expert though... ;)

Update--day 7 of flower

Converted to scrog and up planted from 1-gal into 5-gal (not filled to top, so more like 4).

I'm hoping the screen will fill up some more, although I don't think it looks that bad. This is my first time doing scrog, one of the the purposes of this side project is to gain an understanding of the technique to apply to my led setup.

The plant is short, maybe I trained too aggressively, the screen is about 2' from the light now. This seems slightly on the far end for 250w but I suppose it will grow up closer. I'm not sure I need to get it super close in this setup since most growth is directly beneath the bulb. Let me know if I should prop the plant up though.

Day 12 flower

Not a whole lot going on. Just fed with a teaspoon of molasses. Other than that, she has gotten only filtered water.

A couple days ago, I decided to prop the whole plant/screen up by several inches, for more light intensity. Hope that helps some of the lower bud sites in the center grow up into the screen. So far I like scrog, seems to be easier than lst alone to achieve an even canopy. I'm hoping this girl stretches just a bit more to fill in some spaces. At first I thought I maybe flipped to 12/12 too early but I think it might be just right because I want to keep the tops from burning. If they get too close later on, at least I have the support block underneath that I can remove later if need be. 8-)

Day 18

Thought it would be cool to do several photos back to back to illustrate a Little of the training process.

Day 27 of 12/12

When I got into the space where the tent is located (very tough access) I noticed the timer had some sections pressed in that shouldn't have been. I think maybe rats or mice walked over it. .. So the lights had been going on for about an hour or so right in The middle of the dark period. I'm hoping it wasn't like that for two long....I was out of town for a few days and it seems that stuff always goes awry when I'm gone. Buds look ok to me though so maybe not too much harm done. Might put some rat poison in there if it keeps happening. Enjoy the pics,

Keep an eye on them to make sure they don't turn hermaphroditic due to light stress. Hopefully you'll be OK. :D

~Day 36 Flower~

I apologize for the fuzziness in the pics. As I mentioned, its very hard to access and I have to use all my strength simply to hold my body in a very unnatural position in order to get the shot. Sometimes if I'm tired, its hard to avoid shaky hands.

On a positive note, the rats haven't returned and the buds show no signs of hermaphrodization. Looking good and smelling sweet 8-)

Day 44 flower

Not too much to report. Hiked up the plant a few more inches, now about 16-18" away from lamp. 8-)

Day 47 Blue Dream flowering

I want to cut this down in a couple days. I haven't looked at trichs yet, but seems that buds are still putting on a little growth, although its dropped off. The specs on this strain say 45-56 days. 45 seems a bit short, especially for a haze cross. Not very big buds, but quite a few, and tasty looking. 8-)
