em's grow log

Postby embeth » Tue Mar 13, 2012 9:39 pm

Hi everyone!

I just hung up my solar storm tonight. i've had some seedlings in cups for a month while waiting on my grow room construction. still don't have the HID lights up, but wil get to that. For now i'm just happy that my seedlings can stretch their roots in nice big 5 gallon pots, and are sitting happily under the solar storm.

started out with 10 seeds, 5 blueberry and 5 afghan. one of the afghan beans didn't pop, and one of the blues got her stem snapped in the move to the new room.

i raised the seeds under 2 T12 florescents, and they desperately needed more room and better light. will upload pics tomorrow.

When you're writing a post there's a tab below the text box called "upload attachment" (next to "options") that should allow you to upload them. You can also use the "img" tag/button if you prefer to link them that way.

Thanks for the how-to Mary :) These are my babies. 4 afghans and 4 blues. all about a month old, and just moved from cups under florescent lights to 5 gal pots under solar storm

Looks like a good start. Are you using the solarstorm for the whole grow or just vegging?

i haven't decided yet. My grow room is still in process. i have a space for a metal halide and a space for an HPS, but haven't hung them yet. Once i get the halide up, i've got some hindu and pineapple in cups that i will move under. then i'll probably move some plants around between the two to get a good growth comparison.

as far as flowering goes, i am concerned about yield. i may run some under solarstorm and some under the HPS and see how they compare. i'm also toying with the idea of doing the flowering in two stages, one month under the HPS and then a second month under the SS with UVB turned on.

i'm open to suggestions though... i'm just making this shit up as i go along

If you're concerned about yield I'd suggest a comparison grow. YMMV...

yes from what i understand, LED affects the yield of some strains more than others. i'm down to 4 afghans and 4 blues at this point, with 4 pineapple and 4 hindu waiting on the seedling tray. this weekend i hope to get all the lights set up. at that point, i'll move 2 of the afghans and 2 of the blues to the halide, and compare growth. when i get to fruiting, i'll do the same, half under SS and half under HID.

quality is more important to me than yield since i'm growing only for myself. but i would still hate to put in all these months of work and have little to show for it at the end. as it is, i havent even determined the sex of the plants yet, so i'll be cutting my crop size by about 40% when i identify and dispose of the males.

the last couple of months have been crazy for me. ordering seeds and equipment, getting the room built, nurturing the fragile seedlings.... it will be strange to wind down and relax while i wait for the grass to grow.

What is this "relax" thing that you speak of? I think I've heard of it once, long ago... ;)
