I agree with SME they are looking great.

Got my laptop in today, will set it up this weekend.

My ladies in the cabinet are all mainlined for 8 although i think i will only have 6 on two of the plants. On two of the plants one shoot on each plant is very weak and the second shot it's beginning to out grow the others, so may cut both of both of of each plant. Either that or cut the weak stems of and FILM the single stem to try and keep it's growth under control.
More later,

GR

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the feedback....GR, look forward to seeing more mainlined ladies!

I will post my update later today or tomorrow, but wanted to ask two quick questions.

1) Is there anything to do about clones that simply haven't rooted? They have looked wonderful for 3 weeks, but no roots are showing and today they visibly look like the leaves are shrinking..

2) My "Blue Rhino"..the one seed I found in my last grow...I believe it is a male!! Again, pics to follow later, but I have had my concerns as it is very spindly, no female pre-flowers, and yesterday I believe I could see single small balls forming where I wanted to see 2 hairs...

How can a male seed come from 4 female plants? I thought stressing a female to become a hermie is how you made feminized seeds?? Does this mean that I do indeed have a cross between white rhino and blueberry? Actually missed a White Rhino male flower which pollinated my Blueberry and made just one seed?

Thoughts?

I will post pics soon!

Thanks...ICB

Sometimes cuttings just don't root, that's why you should take more than you need.

Even feminized seeds can grow male plants the odds are just much higher that it'll be female. If you're not sure, post pictures. ;)

There are other ways to make them turn hermaphroditic too. Good genetics won't turn hermie over a little stress, some require a LOT of stress...or chemicals.

Thanks SME,

Here is my weekly update and some pics showing my 2 issues.

All in all, the family looks happy and healthy! Keeping all the temps, RH, Feeding and PH in a consistent range.

Here is the spindly male from a distance...

And here he is up close and personal...no female pre flowers here!

And here are the clones I took...first one is slipping a bit, and the second one just collapsed over night...

I think the true problem is that they are in a make shift area under fluorescent lights...not the best spot...I'm thinking if I really want to have a perpetual grow, I'm going to need to build a 2nd closet and get another light.

Well, the learning experience continues!

Thanks as always,

Did you just stick the cuttings in the soil? You might want to build a cheap-o cloner for better results.

I put the trimmings directly into a glass of RH water for about 10 minutes that had a little Superthrive in it. Then a dip into rooting hormone powder and right into a growing sponge. Under a fluorescent in a terrarium..they are over 21 days old now, no visible roots..and now dying away...I'm thinking too damp, not enough lights...

Also, if I do this again, I think putting it directly into my soil mix right off the bat might be an option to try.

And it does make sense to put something together if I'm going to be topping each of my plants going forward...which begs a question...how many times can you take a clone of a clone without it destabilizing? What will happen if you go "too far"..I always hear about the importance of keeping mother plants to make healthy clones, rather than taking clones of clones. These cuttings are at least third generation from the mother if not more.

My long term goal is to identify 6 strains that work for me via seed banks, then eventually grow a mother of each strain and keep bringing clones to flower.

I'm not sure what you mean by growing sponge but RapidRooters work well and they are kind of spongy. None of them have any roots after 21 days? You can clone in many things but the bubbler and aero type cloners seem to have the most success.

You can clone from clones for many years if the strain is stable. New strains that weren't properly bred might be less but it's better to use a mother for clones. Occasionally replacing a mother with a clone won't hurt anything.

You'll need quite a bit of room for 6 mothers/strains, I like to stick with 1 or 2 unless I'm running a breeding program. The more variety you have to more complexity you have but if you have the exact right combo the complexity could be minimized. Most people don't pick strains that way though. ;)

Thanks SME...yeah, this unplanned donation of clones is going well, but the feeble attempt at cloning myself without planning ahead was not my greatest idea.

Today I donated the suspected male of the family to the compost pile...along with the cuttings and the last clone. It was a failed experiment, and I really need to rethink the logic of my garden cycle...I can go from seed to harvest in 90-100 days, and it appears about the same with these clones, so not much advantage there...

Is the trick having fully vegged plants ready to pop into the flowering room directly after each harvest? ...maybe reducing the cycle time by 30 days? Are the extra harvests worth setting up a second grow room??

The remaining three girls are doing extremely well...healthy greenery, numerous flowering sites..I could swear that the 2 LA Confidentials have swelled to fill up the garden already. They have stretched a solid 7 inches since going to 12/12 just 13 days ago.

Pics next time...

Thanks,

I'd say the extra harvests are worth it or nobody would do it but if you can meet your needs without it then it's not needed. YMMV... ;)
