I keep going back looking at the amazing difference between day 13 and day 21. They grew amazingly! You're right, they do seem to have appreciated the extra care.

Keep up the good work!

Hey all, time for the weekly update. I flipped to 12/12 on day 38, today is now day 5, or 43 overall. Thanks for the comments everyone, I appreciate it! Yeah, MC, I was very pleased with that quick growth spurt. It actually supported a theory I have that I can largely control what the plant grows (roots or greenery) with container volume...I like letting them develop a robust root system in a shallow container first, which as you noted resulted in limited growth above ground...and as soon as I gave it more room...BAM!

So, the basics...temps 83-88, RH 42-48, Feeding full strength now with 5 ml of Cal-Mag with each feeding...

Ok, here is the family shot

Plenty of flowering sites, good strong stalks and stems, nice healthy green foliage...so far, so good!

I've been reading a lot of the discussion about the superiority of HID over LED...I've never grown with HID, so have absolutely no point of personal reference. However, I was always concerned with the heat and too a lesser extent, the power draw...which is why I decided to try the SS400.

Having the ability to grow high quality CBD rich Indica has been a Godsend for me, as we do not yet have any dispensaries here...and I am entirely pleased with what the SS400 has produced with 3 solid harvests this past year.

Thanks all, any and all questions, recommendations or comments always welcomed!

They are looking so beautiful. Look at those huge sun leaves, and the deep green fading to emerald on the new growth. I can't spot a problem leaf anywhere. So so beautiful.

Oh for sure. You clearly have your technique mastered and the skills to back up whatever you decide to use. Superiority is in the eye of the beholder, and I say if you have it dialed in don't broke what ain't need fixed.

Respect.

Yeah, if you're getting the results you want with the light you have there's no need to change it. Perhaps a HID would give you more/better results (and a new learning curve) but if you're happy, why bother? ;)

Thanks for the feedback guys...I guess the light is just another tool we have to learn how to use along with nutrients, PH, water, heat, RH, CO2 and air movement...and after getting things relatively dialed in, the last thing I would want to do is change anything! haha...

Actually, I am still experimenting with topping, pruning and defoliating...some growers I know have recommended it for the Kush especially...SME, I'm not sure if you have ever heard this, but these guys also told me that this is really important for short stocky Indica's in general for air and light penetration...any thoughts?

Ok, so today is day 11 of 12/12, day 49 overall...Temps 83-88, RH 40-50, things looking really good overall.......since turning to 12/12 eleven days ago, the garden went from 11"-13" to 24"-25"...I'm seeing a little bit of extra stretch on the Critical Kush that I don't remember from my last crop...

Here is my beautiful Blueberry bush ! Really spreading out...

Yeah, that crit kush is looking like a bit more on the sativa phenotype side, especially compared to the chronic juice which looks pure indica. They should be a beautiful size by the time they're done stretching.

If they end up stretching a lot more than you anticipated, moderate/heavy defoliation can slow it down.

They all look beautiful though! I'm looking forward to seeing them progress along. I'm really excited for the smoke report on the CBD magma too. How far out are you thinking for harvest?

Side question: Do you keep clones?

Hey MC,

As far as the clones go, no, not really. I do have an LA Confidential "house plant", but 90% of the time I grow directly from feminized seed.

The CBD Magma is outstanding! I grew it in my last harvest, unfortunately one that I did not post a journal for. It is very mellow, making the couch very inviting, and comfortable. I usually end up mixing a little of this in with pretty much everything else I vaporize. I find the high CBD content really helps alleviate inflammation/pain for me...and that has been backed up with recent blood work on my C-Reactive Protein levels !!!

As far as harvest times go, as SME always advises, they are ready when they are ready....that said, in my experience with 4 harvests,(not like that is anything) I'm anticipating approximately a 100 day cycle-from seed to harvest. 5-7 days to germinate and pop, 30 days to veg, and 60-65 days to flower...I prefer a 50% amber harvest, so some may harvest a little sooner...

In fact, last grow I did harvest right on day 60..and it could have used a little bit more time I think... the effect is a little more "up" than I usually enjoy.

Peace!

ICB, Hey buddy,
I have a friend that harvest very early, especially his WW and I have had it and a very very uplifting high.
I have waited the suggested full term and have gone beyond full term but have not harvest early. If I have 4 plant flower, the WW being one, I plan on harvesting it at about 5 to 7 weeks, the other three, all same strain from breeder, I plan on harvesting one a week early, one one date and one one week beyond suggested harvest. since this variety is a home breed, I looked up the female and the two male cross plant and they suggest for 6 to 9 weeks. I plan on going 5, 6 and 7 week harvest. I will adjust to the amount of plant I have that are female, should know that in two to three weeks.
As SME suggest, experiment till you find what you are looking for.
I am not keeping any clones, want to try a few different strains before I go there.

I prefer not to defoliate but selective topping/pruning/fimming/etc. (for shape) in veg is fine. Too much defoliating is detrimental and even smaller amounts *can* cause stress that I try to avoid. That said, they're your plants do what you want. Experiment and see what works for you. Defoliate some, once, and then none the next time to compare.

YMMV...

Hey ICB,

I've been looking into harvesting and what the trichs look like. i have kinda experimented. 50% to 20% amber was the range.

i found some info that has changed how i'm looking at harvesting the next one. i can't find the website (i cleared my history) but the post was basically this : amber= oxidation of the THC = loss in potency.

harvest when first signs of amber appear.

his theory was that if you want that real couch lock effect, that you should be looking at high CBD strains instead of indica/sativas in general. how do you like the CBC magma? have you grown it before???

there is a grower in the town next to me that does a strain called charlotte's web. very high CBD. i have never really searched out a high CBD strain. maybe i should...

all is looking well buddy!
