New closet grow with the SolarStorm

Postby jsmith » Thu Feb 27, 2014 3:51 am

Hey guys, this is my first time on here. I am gonna use a small closet grow with 5 different strains I got from friends. Should be plenty of light for these guys. I'm using a basic setup..soil, a bit of General Hydroponics nutrients, fans, water...you get the idea. Just got them out of baby stage and put all the clones underneath the light. Here goes!

Welcome to the forums!

Even with the more powerful diodes on the SS, you probably don't want to let them get too big before flowering. I wouldn't go over 12", personally. ;)

Hey again! I only have so much space, and I would like to take advantage of it? Right? A bit bigger plants would be nicer.. Either way, I figured out that I could hang a flourescent light in the other side of the closet. takes much better pictures under that light anyways! The girls are definitely growing..I'm gonna move them into 3 gallons soon. Would it be better to have shorter and wider containers? Or taller and skinnier? Here are the pictures from this week :)

LED grow lights don't penetrate bigger plants very well so while bigger plants are nicer if you have the right lights; sometimes smaller is better. The SS400w will only properly cover so much area.

Shorter and wider would more stable if they get too tall but they'd probably like a taller and wider container best. ;)

I have a spider mite infestation on one of my plants now :( I quarantined it outside until I figure it out. I think I will follow your advise and flower. What is your recommendation on spider mites? Gas fogger? Neem oil? here are 4 of my girls

Just checking in guys, its going pretty well so far. I started flowering, and the lights seem to be doing great! I have them on a 12/12 light cycle and they are showing quite a few little hairs from the nodes. One male for sure that got trashed, another one could possibly be male, waiting for a more positive identification. I wish I had started a lot more seeds. But, i'm happy with the light, and I'll be happy with a few ounces of primo. Look at maaah girl here

I think the key to good growth is the highly reflective Duck Dynasty poster; camouflage might become the new mylar. ;)

I broke my laptop...however, i harvested and everything has turned out right. It's been a bit longer than I thought, but my last post didn't go through for some reason. I also lost my pictures :( This has been a bad few weeks. I did harvest the plants early, hoping for more of a head high. I think the lights are the only thing I DIDNT have problems with lately. And for the record, the duck dynasty poster definitely increased growth and strength of the weed. For sure I recommend everyone gets a DD poster. :) Thanks for all the help guys! It's been fun, but I've definitely got some tweaking to do

one thing i read a long time ago: don't change too much at once. if it works well or fails miserably, you won't really know what caused it.

just my .02
good luck on the next one! RKY
