Each set of genetics would be different, start with 4 plants and see if it gets too crowded or if you have too much open space and then adjust the time after that. That said, I'd start with the Afghani since that would probably be the shortest but if you grow from seed then you could up with some BAD males too. :(

Day 18 of 12/12

SME and the rest of you fine folks,

I am fairly sure that this leaf curl is from too much N, but what do you think? SME, we discussed this the other day and we decided to give the higher ppm rate a try. Time to back off. Not seeing any tip burn at this time.

I watered and fed yesterday, nutes the past two feedings have been 1250 to 1350 ppm, pH 6.2 to 6.4.
My plan is to flush very well my next watering, which I hope I can hold out till Saturday, but if not will do it tomorrow. I will soak flush, submerge the fabric pots completely in pH'ed rain water, may not need to pH it, as of late it has been in the low 6's. I will set it on a screen and let it drain completely and then repeat a few time with fresh rain water each time. I will be checking the ppm and pH of the rinse-ate and continue to flush until I get a low ppm and a pH of around 6. Hope it rains this weekend, only have about 30 gallons of rain water left in my tubs.
After this is done and drained well they will go back in the cabinet with no nutes this run.

Tell me please if I should do something different!

Thanks

hey GR,

man, i always thought dirt was supposed to be easier than hydro. seems like there is way more work in it than i thought.

what nutes did you end up using?

did you get your humidity issues figured out?

RKY,

I am using GH nutes, I do admit the ppm was a little high.

The weather has helped out in the RH department.
My temps have been running at 74 to 82 with lights on and 65 to 72 lights off.
ppm has ranged from 1250 to 1340 only on these last two feedings, prior to this it was 750 to 900.
pH has been steady at 6.2 to 6.6

I don't think soil is that difficult, I have made it difficult by my over experimentation. I am thinking of going with Hempy Buckets next grow.

Anyway I think I will do the flush thingy and see how it progresses.

Thanks,

GR

hey GR,

that's my motto in dwc: when in doubt, flush it out!

i grew 2 kick ass tomato plants in hempy buckets this season. i think they are a good way to get introduced to hydro

Hey GR,

Looking great man...the fun part is really starting to begin now!

You know, I agree that growing in soil isn't that difficult...I really believe it's a lot more forgiving than any other system.

With all the mistakes I made this time around, I would have killed off any crop in any other grow setup!!

I'm looking forward to the next grow (and I haven't even harvested everything yet!!)...so I can incorporate everything I have learned. First key findings...too much water is a LOT worse than not enough water...and temperature and RH are VERY important to manage.

I think one of the major differences of growing in soil is that it's not as much about measuring everything as it is learning how to read your plants...they will tell you everything you need to know...too much or not enough water, P,K, N, etc....just learning that takes a while !! :!: :!:

Continued good luck friend!

Thanks Curt,

I have been watering by weight, I can feel when I lift the plants if they need water or not.

Q2's daughter does not drink near as much as her mother, she was put into flower very young so her root system and leaf mass is not near that of Q2. I have begun watering them separate.

Love your grow sure wish I could get a taste of that, but hell I wish I could get a taste of everyones grow. LOL

Ok, I am on my third flush and drain, on Q2. Rainwater ppm 18, pH 6.54

1st - ppm 1375 pH 6.53
2nd - ppm 876 pH 6.58
3rd - ppm 449 pH 6.67

Q2's daughter

1st ppm 1253 pH 5.98
2nd ppm 1003 pH 5.98
3rd ppm 841 pH 6.11
4th ppm 491 pH 6.36

The soil in Q2's daughters container is about a month newer than that in Q2's so it is harder to get the pH adjusted. Don't want to do another flush on Q2's daughter. I like the ppm where it is and I think the pH will be ok.

hey GR,
just out of curiosity, how do you measure pH in soil? do you catch the runoff and measure what is coming out vs. what you are putting in?

and for soil, you want a higher pH than hydro right?

RKY,

Yes I catch the rinse-ate that come out of the smart pot. Put plant on screen over a 5 gallon bucket.
As my post said the rain water going in was 6.54 pH, so my goal was to get the soil in the smart pot as close to that number as possible.
My main goal in doing the flush was to lower the amt of nutes available in the soil. I just added too much N which as you know in flowering is not a good thing.

I want my pH to be in 6.5 to 6.7 range.

Thanks for checking up on me.

Peace out,

GR
