Re: New to the GFP

Please look at the lower two leaves, first leaves to emerge.
I am seeing some yellowing.
Have had to be watering daily, have watered twice with lite nutes in RO, 265 ppm, pH 6.35 and watered twice with RO no nutes pH 6.3

I could sure use some opinions and help. Only two remaining plants.

Now that they're established and growing you can give them more food. If you're using the Lucas Formula and you're still using CFLs then I'd start at 5/10 (whatever ppm that gives you) but if you're using all 3 GH products you'll have to experiment. LF was designed for hydro but I think it'll still work for soil, even if you have to tweak it.

Hey SME,
Is it true that a very young plant will use up the energy in the lower leaves (and turn yellow) to make roots?

It's true that plants do use nutrients for root development but I don't know which nutrients that would be since I never studied botany in college. That said if they're being fed enough of the right nutrients then it shouldn't show up as a deficiency in the leaves so, to me, it doesn't matter if it's going to roots or not. You have to feed the whole plant. ;)

Thanks SME, don't have a handle on the Lucas Formula. So just went with a .75 rate of the GH BioThrive 3-0-1 and the related products, GH Cal/Mag, GH Bio Root, and Bio Weed.
My ppm is 725, and the pH is 6.05.
Will switch back and forth between feeding and just watering, with pH adjusted RO.

Thanks for your help. Man I have forgotten so much from collage, good thing they don't text you periodically or they would take my degree away.

RKY, I do remember from my studies that the plant, every plant grown from seed, uses the seed as a food source until the first/second true sets of leaves appear.

New pics this weekend. Not much to take but like a proud papa. LOL

Good Morning people,

Growth is going ok, about day 16 from seed, vegging under my CFL fixture and taken outside during the day.

Hope to finish the cabinet later this coming week, I have a couple of orders to get out before I have time to work on the cabinet. Damn shame that making some money comes first. I really want to get it done so I can move the plants under the SS400. Well hopefully by next weekend unless more orders come in this week. I have to get as much done as possible during the season, as sells really slow down in the fall and winter which give me the time to build up an inventory for next yr.

Listened to SME and have been using higher nute rate. Have been having to water every day. I think the combo of the fans on high blowing directly on the plants to help strengthen the stems and being outside during the day, plus the plants growing actively is the reason for the amount of water usage. I will be watering with nutes every second or third watering.

I think I'd be shooting for a pH about 6.5 - 6.6 in soil but I don't know your soil, maybe there's something in it that means you should shoot lower. *shrug*

Day 20 from seed:

Transplanted into .75 gallon pots, was having to water the small pot daily. Hope to keep them there through veg. then into 3 gallon smart bags.

Raised my ppm to 750 and maintaining a 6.5 to 6.7 pH. Thinking I may need to go a bit lower.

I am seeing some more yellowing on plant 1, as you can see in the pic, hoping the transplant will help it. It was not totally root bound but there were lots of white root hugging the side of the smaller pot. The runt plant is no more, it has taken to a growing and has caught up to plant 1.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

I wouldn't go lower than 6.5 in soil and I'm not sure than 750ppm is high enough either but maybe you're seeing something that I'm not.

It takes time to see changes when growing in soil so you have to be patient. Soil buffers nutrients so you don't see results right away when you make an adjustment. Give it a few days.
