New Solar Storm Review

Postby DrKush » Thu Apr 05, 2012 12:38 am

My New Solar Storm 800 watt LED arrived the other day and the quality and construction of the product is impressive. Kicked it on in my living room and gave family pets a heart attack and sent them scrambling..LOL It by far is the most intense LED grow light I have seen. My fellow growers in the area are not belivers in LED but I wanted to try one so here we go.. I'm in the process of uploading some photos shortly, but I will tell you I have 2 Master Kush and 2 NYCD growing under it as a test and 2 plants of each blooming under Halide as well. The LED plants have surpassed by a small margin size and bud sites but as we know the proof will be in 7 more weeks.. Photos too follow soon

This unit does generate some heat but seems to keep itself reasonable cool with built in fans and heat sinks. 4 plants is a squeeze in the 5x5 foot print but I need it to do at least a decent job on that many at a time to justfy the cost. I am replacing a 1000 watt Halide for theses plants and hope to save some energy without sacrificing too much wieght and quality.

Well...

As the resident LED skeptic, I have to say that the SolarStorm is probably one of the best LED lights on the market but if you think it's going to replace that 1000w HID, for anything more than vegging, in a 5x5 space, then you're probably going to be disappointed. 4 plants is not a problem if you start flowering a little shorter, it's the area of coverage by the light (w/sft) that will make the bigger difference on your yield and quality. Even 1000w in a 5x5 is bit light for HID, imo.

Why do you use MH instead of HPS in your previous grows? Are you growing soil or hydro? From seed or clone? Vegging to what height? 8 week flower?
