I've seen a couple of people now that say the SS is more comparable to a 600w HPS than 1000w. Assuming 1g/w on the HPS light; the SS would have to get around 1.6g/w to have the same yield as the 1kw HID that gets 1g/w. That said, you will pack on more weight during the last few weeks so maybe you'll surprise us all. ;)

Disclaimer:
I still use HID and I'm NOT an LED expert. All of my LED knowledge is from other parties or research so I can't say from first hand experience one way or another. I also run a medical grow consulting business in SoCal.

i'm gonna need a lot of bulking, lol. the nugs are usually two to three times bigger at this point in the grow. like i said, maybe quantity and quality is there though just not size. fingers crossed...

Oby1,
My first post here, but I'm not new to LED. I'm actually seriously considering the SS. Anyways, I'm interested to know how high your light is above the canopy. Just guessing from the pics, I tend to think it's probably too high. You loose lots of intensity as you go up. I'm sure you know this as well with hid. As with hid, it's almost a heat thing, yet not. In my experience, you will see new buds bleaching if you get too close. Rather than burning from heat, they'll be bleach white.

I would probably try 18" above canopy as a good starting point in full bloom. If no bleaching occurs within 5-7 days, and you have some new bud growth at top, then you could drop it 2" and see how it does. Obviously if bleaching occurs, you raise it up.

Bottom line, no matter what light/type we use, we know the more light they can get w/o burning or bleaching, the more growth there will be.

Best wishes on your grow.

day 53!!! quality is looking very nice. trich production seems to be a little better than usual. maybe the uvb is contributing to this. lower branches seem more immature and less dense than the 1k. beginning to think canopy management will help a lot next run. nugs are smaller as well...

the final results and opinions are in....

The solarstorm was able to yeild a moderate 390 grams. This equates to .63 gpw.

The original goal of this light was to replace my 1k and unfortunately I will not be keeping it. Of course, with more time to perfect the LED growing style I know i could do better but my trial period is limited. If i was replacing a 600 in a 3x3 i'd probably keep the light but I can't settle for such little weight when i'm used to around 700 with the 1k.

As far as quality, everything looks great and on par with the hps with the exception of size and more popcorn which I have said all along the grow.

I'll have the true test of quality soon when i'm able to enjoy some of the product so i'll be back whenever that is....

thanks for tuning in...

Not that I disagree with your conclusions nor opinion but if you were getting 700 grams with the 1000w HID that's .70 grams per watt so the SS isn't that far off in the g/w game, it just doesn't have the power or intensity that some people are used to.

Thanks for sharing and good luck on future grows!
