The solarstorm was able to yeild a moderate 390 grams. This equates to .63 gpw.

The original goal of this light was to replace my 1k and unfortunately I will not be keeping it. Of course, with more time to perfect the LED growing style I know i could do better but my trial period is limited. If i was replacing a 600 in a 3x3 i'd probably keep the light but I can't settle for such little weight when i'm used to around 700 with the 1k.

As far as quality, everything looks great and on par with the hps with the exception of size and more popcorn which I have said all along the grow.

I'll have the true test of quality soon when i'm able to enjoy some of the product so i'll be back whenever that is....

thanks for tuning in...

Not that I disagree with your conclusions nor opinion but if you were getting 700 grams with the 1000w HID that's .70 grams per watt so the SS isn't that far off in the g/w game, it just doesn't have the power or intensity that some people are used to.

Thanks for sharing and good luck on future grows!

i completely agree. if the solarstorm was pushing a 1000 watts then maybe the results would have been on par with the 1k. however, it is only 620 watts and i can't justify spending another 1500 to add 400 more watts with more led panels. this kind of defeats the purpose anyway because the idea was to save electricty. i'm sure i saved on cooling costs but there's no way to realize how much as the area is centrally cooled and the a/c would be running with or without a grow. i also don't want to have 4 different fixtures in one 4x4 tent because i like a neat setup. i'm also not convinced that would be the answer either as the nugs were significantly smaller and there was much more popcorn under the canopy because the penetration didn't seem to be there. a lot of this popcorn ends up in the bubble bags so 390 grams is probably a generous total. i believe the solarstorm would work better in a 3x3. the corners seemed dark in the 4x4 tent and it seemed like there was a hotspot right under the light and then a quick drop off as you move outward.

i did however buy some led's for my veg room as well a few months ago. this has worked out great. i replaced a 600 mh with 4 100 watt panels from another manufacturer. the plants veg great and i was able to shut off an a/c and cool the room just using an intake/exhaust setup. this has allowed me to save 200 watts directly with the light change and then probably 1000 more by being able to run without the a/c.

I agree, I don't think any LED will be able to compete with a 1000w HPS, penetration wise, until they get to the 7w-10w diode ranges. As for area covered, I also agree, I think you need at least 45w-50w/sq ft and in a 3x3 area that would be closer to 55w/sq ft which would yield better quality plants than 40(ish)w/sq ft in a 4x4 area.

That said, I think the 5w diodes in the SS would be fine for a SOG where the grower flowers at 10"-12" and keeps a very full canopy because the idea is a lot of colas not lower side buds. 4x4 might still be pushing it a little but in SOG it would still tolerate it better. I still haven't found a better full cycle LED light than the SS but it really cannot compete with a 1000w hid.

I also give George full credit for outstanding service, I've seen nothing but good/positive comments regarding that.

Disclaimer:
I still use HID and I'm NOT an LED expert. All of my LED knowledge is from other parties or research so I can't say from first hand experience one way or another. I also run a medical grow consulting business in SoCal.
