Nope, the heat is coming from the heat sinks, attached to the LED drivers, inside the unit...

Of course it would work. What I believe he meant is a adapter right on the heat sink. The heat is vented out the sides and its a whole lot of it. I believe the heat build up comes from the exhaust hitting the sides of the tent and getting diffused down and up. Not all of it goes up. If there was a attachment on the side you could just straight suck it up. Then again if you did that and some consumer did not attach ducting to the side then it would end in fail. Maybe a adapter or something would work better.

I have the 800w Solarstorm and 200w Solarflare. The Solarflare generates some heat but I have the ducting right next to the heat sink. Hardly any heat in my tent since its sucking it right up. On the Solarstorm I dont. I was thinking attaching a air diffuser to funnel the air up to solve that. That would add to the width of the panel though and its already wide.

It doesn't even need to be six or four inch round. They could make it 3x7 rectangular which would fit a standard rectangular to 4" round duct adapter which are rated to 200cfm, more than adequate for what my 400 is putting out. This way, no major redesign needed just add the 3x7 flange to each side exhaust where the vent grills are now. Not sure about the 800 but it looks like those dims would work on the 400.

day 10 of 12/12 - all of the jamaicans started flowering two days ago. i came home from the weekend and the big jamaican had grown up too close to the light and got some leaf damage. i'm keeping it about 3ft above the canopy now. some pictures with the ss off this time...

3 feet is way too far, imho, but it's your grow... ;)

It wasnt actually the far, it was more like 30". So much for eyeballing it. But you're right of course that's still too far and closer is better. I've dropped it back down to the two foot zone. We'll see how they handle. The jd's have been pretty fickle about it. The auto is totally unaffected.

Odd your plants dont like it close. I have my SS like 3 inches from the tops of my plants.

3" is great if the plants can take the heat and you watch carefully enough to prevent burns but that also lowers the area covered. Pros and cons... ;)

Well they got so stinking tall on me. 37 36 and 30 inches. I veged at 8 inches.

I know, I'm just saying that there are pros and cons for virtually every decision like that. Too high from the plants and you cover more area but you lose a lot of your intensity. Too low and you have great intensity but you lose coverage. It all depends on what you have, want and need... ;)
