Re: Solarstorm day one installed and running

The clone/plants are on the "old" side and were almost a foot tall when they went in the chamber so I went straight to bloom phase just to see what will happen.

The "nute burn" is not from that, but probably lack of light as they were tall in the clone grower and grew past the top of the LED assembly and CFL's.

My plan for the next grow is to have bushier clones when I put them in the chamber.

My timing got all screwed up as I built a new clone grower and it works so well I have to redo the schedules.

The installation and results from the LED assembly in the cloner convinced me LED's are the way to go.

Not sure how the lights burned the leaves in the middle and bottom of the plants, still looks like nute burn to me...but I'm not there and you are so...if you're sure.

Time will tell, I guess we'll know more in 8 weeks. ;)

Believe me, I know nute burn, and those leaves were in bad shape when transferred.

My cloner doesn't run "hot" soup ppms.

Look at the tips of the leaves.

If there was nute burn it would have showed up in more places.

Also, 7 weeks to go, one down.

Like I said, I'm not there and you have more info than I do.

True enough, 7 weeks to go, I'm looking forward to the results. What kind of yield were you getting with your HPS light?

When I first started (about 5 years ago), I was using a 400w and I got to the point I was getting 8-10 oz per crop.

I then went to a 600w and with a 50% increase in light I got a 100% increase in yield, or about 18 oz per crop.

I want to see what I get with the LED as I calculate a 30% increase in light.

However, I am not gonna "hang my hat" on this first grow results, although I don't foresee anything from preventing a stellar crop.

The great thing about the chamber and DWC method I use is that they are not variables in the equation anymore.

18 ounces = 522 grams / 600w light = .87g/w which isn't bad but it could be better. I prefer 1000w HPS because it has the best penetration and covers more area but everyone is different.

The record here for the SS is 1g/w, so far, and that's without CO2. The best HID grow that I've heard of was 1.9g/w but a number of people were skeptical of that number. Even if if was only 1.4g/w that would still be impressive indeed...

Yeah , you may need a grow or two to work out the kinks like the ones you had with your new clone chamber. Time will tell... ;)

That 18 oz per crop with the 600w doesn't take into consideration the stuff that I gave away.

I am exhausted, stinky and sticky just dealing with the "primo" stuff I keep.

Here is a pic of what the top buds looked like from July 2012:

THIS CROP WAS GROWN UNDER A 600 WATT HPS and will be used for comparing the 800.

One measured over 18 inches.

I think you'll find them comparable, the SS800w actually puts out ~625-630-ish watts and based on grows so far, I'd say that's safe comparison.

Like I said, I am convinced LED's are the way to go.

More light and better distribution of it over the canopy.

One of the ways I keep track is daily water usage (R/O).

I have a 5 gallon reservoir that gravity feeds my tanks through a float valve and I am already adding almost a gallon a day.

That usually doesn't happen till week 5 of bloom.

Personally, I think LED is better suited for the cloning/mother plant/veg stages but they certainly work for flowering too. My biggest problem with LED is cost, it has a much longer ROI but I've already debated the cost/benefit analysis in other threads here. ;)
