Me too...

If you search HV's older journal he had environmental issues that made him yield less than he did the 2nd time but the 5w diodes on the SS series is one of the reasons that I'm impressed with CLW. EVERYBODY says that the service is awesome too...

After looking at his first journal again, he may be running the SS800w and 1 or more blackstar lights, we'll have to get HV to fill us in to be sure now. If he's running multiple lights and not *just* the SS800w that will certainly impact his gpw number. :(

Darn.

Here I was, daydreaming of 11oz off of a SS400w...

Well even if the record isn't 1g/w here, it would still be in the .87 to .9 range so I still believe that 1g/w is possible with the right variables. Maybe you'll do better... :D

I see that you list heat as one of the main issues with the SolarStorm 800w. SME warned me about this, and I'm seeing a lot of references to this problem around the web. How would you compare its heat output to your old 400w HID? I'm interested in adding a SolarStorm to my garden and I'm trying to gauge how much extra ventilation I'll need... :D

My grow area is in a corner of a small basement bathroom and is approximately 3.5' x 3.5'. Originally I decided that heat could be an issue so I opted for a 400w HID over a 600w HID. Temps stayed below 85 deg even in the summer. Stretching was a real problem so I tried to do a modified SOG, I FIM'd plants and used 3 gallon pots for soil. I rotated positions daily to ensure that all plants had their time in the sweet spots. My first SS grow was only during the bloom phase and most plants were under 30" tall. My highest yield plant was allowed to grow to 45". To combat the heat I had to dedicate a small fan located behind and above the SS to blow in the direction of the door. This brought temps down to <95 deg (above plants and light). The temp at the canopy level was usually 5 deg less. Unfortunately this heated up the basement 10 to 15 deg above normal.

As for yield, I also had an issue with one of the four LED sections with many LEDs out. With that problem fixed I xpect the next grow to exceed this one. I've already seen a dramatic decrease in stretching in my new grow.

Thanks for the update, I'm going to move both of your journals to the CLW forum for the GFP...
