I also wanted to mention that I've vented my solarstorm in some of the same ways that dwcled did after corresponding with clw. My room was starting to warm up with the weather here and I really don't want to run the portable ac - which is the reason for trying led in the first place.

My first attempt a few days ago failed... I used two register rectangular duct adapters to 4" round to vent the exhaust from the sides straight out of the room. I left the top fans on the solarstorm open thinking that they would push the room air through the duct and out but when I went back to check a few hours later, the ss had shut itself off. The little fans are just not powerful enough to push the exhaust through the ducting - especially with big bends like I had to put in.

I left the ducting on and added a 4x10 rectangular to 6" round to the top and hooked my centrifugal fan up to that to push the air through the top and it has been great since. Everything is nice and cool. Now my carbon filter is on top of the fan. The fan is on top of the solarstorm and I'm using the room air to cool the light. So not good for co2 supp like dwc has set up but good for air exchange and cooling...

Congrats on the successful venting and thanks for the reference.

After this harvest I am gonna permanently mount (pop rivet) the ducting to the housing.

Amazing how cool the fixture runs with some air pumped through it.

I checked in with George at clw before I went ahead to make sure that I wasn't doing anything that might void the warranty. He was very supportive and assured me that the warranty would not be effected.

I also called him in a panic after the light shut down when I first added the ductwork (without the supplemental fan) and he called me right back and assured me that once it cooled of it would turn back on. So it's nice to know that there is overheat protection, as you suspected, and that it works.

Day 52 of 12/12

They are all developing some nice tropical notes. One of the Jamaican Dream has a pungent smell of over-ripe guavas. Smells so good. They each have their own distinctive aroma but the guava one is the best. fortunately it is also the biggest! I'm really excited for this grow to finish up and very impressed with the performance of the solarstorm400. Definately keeping it!

Thanks beefxer! It's too bad I can't get the smell to you, it's really unique.

You could try to take clones from the bottom branches and put them back in veg if they root, that way you can save the phenotype and have more of the guava type. Just an option... ;)

That's a great idea. I'm going to take a cut and just plan to grow it out. that will give me time to cure this batch and see if the smoke turns out as good as the smell, and if it does I'll turn it into a mother.

Looking great. How far is the light from the canopy?
