NYC LED SOUR OG

Postby NYCLEDHYDRO » Thu Oct 18, 2012 10:34 pm

Long waited Solar Storm has finally arrived today.

Have always used HIDs as most growers are familiar with. I will be posting various comparison between HID and LED grow lights. Please remember that all my posts are strictly my own personal opinion. As all people are entitle to their own opinions, I rather not judge your opinions nor do I want anyone to be judgemental towards my personal opinions.

Currently, have nine 3 weeks old feminized Sour OG in soil. I will be using Fox Farm nutrients only during this grow. Have decided to grow these on the soil, due to relocation of the grow area in 15 days.

On the fifth of November, I will be starting a new grow in DWC hydroponic system. Another entry will be posted as soon as it gets started.

Will try MY BEST to post pictures and videos, nevertheless I have yet to figure out how to use this forum completely, so please be patient.

Including a picture of my first indoor LED grow.

When you're writing a reply there's a tab below the text-box that says "Upload attachment." I don't think videos are allowed here but pictures will work if they're the right format and not too big.

UPDATE FOUR DAYS AFTER USING SOLAR STORM

Postby NYCLEDHYDRO » Tue Oct 23, 2012 8:58 pm

It has been four days since I changed the primary light source to Solar Storm from HID. As noted in numerous articles over the internet, my biggest concern for changing the light was the solar storm's ability to penetrate into the fan leaves to promote and encourage photosynthesis. I realized after four days of use that solar storm does provide adequate amount of light when used as primary source of light for any indoor grown cannabis. My plants are responding to the solar storm no different then the way it did when I was using HIDs. After four days, my biggest concern for changing the light has been answered. Nevertheless, until I see the outcome of my harvest from using LEDs I really can not conclude that LED's are better then HIDs. But after the harvest I could find out if LED's are worse then HIDs, or better then HIDs, or there are nothing to gain or lose for using LEDs. Other important factors to consider are how economical is the solar storm and how much less heat it generates during use when compared to the HIDs. I am expecting 25-35% decrease in my monthly electric bill for using the LEDs over the HIDs. So far everything is looking good and I have no concerns for changing the primary light source to solar storm.

Unless your old light was that much bigger than your SS, I wouldn't expect to save much electricity. The common comparison for the SS lights is that they're about the same as a similar sized HID.

YMMV...

Hurricane Sandy ruined my crop!!! It has been a week since Sandy, and my power was just restored today. Have lost all hydroponic plants due to power outage. Plants that were on soil survived but took significant damage due to lack of light for 5 full days. All plants are in no condition to revive. As a result, I have decided to get rid of all previous plants.

I will be moving to new location in a week. I will be posting new posts in regards to new grow that is scheduled to start soon. Will be growing Jack Herer and Chemdog. I will keep you updated as soon as I start new crop.
