I try to stimulate conversations by asking questions and starting debates but you can only lead a horse to water. My first grows (outdoor gorilla style) were in the 70s but I didn't know jack back then. Now I've forgotten more than I thought I knew then.

How about you?

Hey bagsworth -- I Just wanted to say how awesome your grow looks! I enjoyed looking through the pics..Beautiful structure with all those bud sites. When using an aero pot can you get by with a smaller size pot? I've never used those..just curious what some advantages might be.

Hey what's up Bags, new around here and have been lurking on your grow for about a week, nice work thus far.Waiting on delivery for a ss400, anxious to see what those 5w diodes can do. I picked up a pair of advanced 360s about a year ago and was never really all that excited by them although they did get some results. After the first round the 1000w sodiums went back up though. Anywho just wanted to chime in and say hey, good luck with the grow and keep on keepin on.

Hey Dustydirt, thanks for commenting, and the answer to your question is it really all depends on how big you plant is, or how big you want your plant to be. Just like other pots you will be limited on plant size depending on how big you pot is, but in airpots your roots are being delivered more oxygen than in regular pots causing your root system to thrive, plus when your roots hit the edge of the pot they go out the holes on the side and get naturally pruned causing the roots to excel their growth. Hope that answers your question!

LeroyBrown, thanks for looking, I think you will be pleasantly surprised with your SS400w, but try not to compare it to your 1000w HPS, more like a 600w HPS +, and in my opinion so far on the SS400w, it blows a 600w away. I wanted to also mention to you that to get great results with LED your growing style will need to change, try using scrog or LST and you will get better results with you new venture. Send me a link to your journal when you get your new SS400w and I will follow your journal as well. Good luck with you SS400w.

SME, I almost forgot to respond to you. I am 35 and have been around growing most of my life, but have grown my self off and on for the last 20 years, and have helped others with their grows. I have not steadily grown for legal issues, I guess if I did not have a daughter I would have been growing steady all along, but the law made me fear doing anything that would hurt my family, so my knowledge comes mainly from being around and helping other growers, and research of my own. I acquired my Medical Marijuana prescription about a year ago and have been in the works of perfecting my grow since, not that perfection is ever perfect. Talk to you soon SME!

Sorry but, based on results we've seen so far, I have to disagree. Not one journal here, so far, has even hit the 1g/w mark and we KNOW that HID can surpass that. I see no way that 310w worth of LED beats 600w HID and more than one journal here says that the SS800w (625w-ish LED) is about the same as a 600w HID. Show me a believable journal that gets 600+ grams from a SS400 and I'll change my mind. That's not to say that the SS400 is a bad light but there's no way that it'll produce as much as a 600w HID nor will it cover the same area effectively.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it... ;)

SME, I was just saying, compared to what I have seen so far for growth on my plants, not final results, I have liked what I am getting better from the SS400w than what I have seen with a 600w hps. I may be wrong after all is said and done with final results! Maybe "blows it away" was a bit too judgmental! I also think technique has a big part to do with what the final results will be from any LED light, I have only improved my final outcome since experimenting with LED.

Oh yeah, I am not an LED head, just looking for a greener environment!

There's no doubt that LED will veg well and other tests show that smaller LED lights can even keep up with HID in early flowering if the plants are flowered while they're short but it still cannot cover the same area nor produce as much, in either veg or flower.

As for the "green" myth, that doesn't seem to hold up to the reality test either. If a 600w LED is about the same as a 600w HID then it uses about the same electricity and is no better for the environment...unless you want to count a small amount of waste sent to landfills from replaced bulbs and even that is assuming the old bulbs aren't recycled.

Before this journal gets out of control, let's move the yield conversation to here:
