I'm confused because cannabutter and hash are two different things. Taste different compared to what? Perhaps you did something wrong while making your butter or you could try a different strain? It's probably the plant matter that changes the taste, hash would have a taste too...

Yeah, I wasn't clear at all.

Isn't hash a resin filled with cannabinoids and nothing else? So it's very potent and has a lesser amount of oils that are likely to change the taste if I use fat to extract the cannabinoids?

I did two batches of brownies and the ones made with cannabutter taste differently than the ones made with regular butter. I used the slow crockpot method. The high was there alright, knocked me off my ass, but it does taste like marijuana was added to it and I can't say I find it enhances the dish taste-wise.

If I were to use hash to make edibles instead of grinding the plant, would it minimize the taste alteration?

I've never seen clear hash so it all contains some plant matter although some extraction methods might have less than others. I've never had edibles that didn't have some "pot taste" to it so if you think that hash will make it taste like the pure butter version, it wont. It might lessen the taste a little but maybe not. Maybe you ground it too fine or didn't use a fine enough filter? *shrug*

I used a cheese cloth.

I'm gonna have to experiment with edible recipes. I imagine certain dishes are better suited to marry with the natural taste of the plant.

Something that might filter more plant matter and a corse grind might help too. Experimentation is good... ;)

Looking good Frank! Keep it up!

It might be time to start thinning out the lower branches. See how the lowest set of branches is stretching? In my experience, removing branches that exhibit long internode spacing like that will boost growth in the branches that remain. YMMV :D

Can you be more specific? I don't really understand what you mean by thinning.

He means cutting the lower branches off...or lollipopping. The reason for the longer internodes on the bottom branches is because they're more shaded than the upper branches. I'm not sure you should since you plan to SCROG but I'm not a SCROG expert. I'd just use LST to train the lower branches to another part of your screen. I think that would fill up your screen faster.

YMMV... ;)

For me the big advantage of SCROG is that you can have a few main branches that spread out horizontally, filling in the screen with side branches. This eliminates a huge amount of stem mass since there is only one main stem traveling vertically, which has numerous benefits IMO. I prefer to remove at least the bottom set of branches for easier access to the hydroton for daily tea dosing.

Here's a pic of how I like it to look. Good access, good air flow, reduced stem mass.

Hanging to dry - good stem-to-flower ratio. This is the same plant that I posted for you last week, Frank. Hoping to hit 14oz. :)
