SOLAR STORM 400w GFP GROW JOURNAL

Postby briman » Mon Feb 25, 2013 10:22 pm

Hello, I am doing a GFP journal on the 400w Solar Storm. I run 250w mh/hps in my tents, and am interested in running the Solar Storm against my 250w mh/hps. My tents are finishing up my GIGABUD grow(about 10 days from finishing), so I will give a rundown of my setup and what I plan on doing in my next grow when the tents are ready. I will give weekly updates and pics very soon.
The goods---
2 Grow Lab 80 tents(2'7''x2'7''x5'11'')(tent #1 sunleaves 250w system mh/hps)(tent #2 Solar Storm 400w). Both tents are Carbon scrubbed and vented with 4 inch exhaust. Will have to play with the speed bully to get the desired temps and humidity at the sweet spot.
3 gal tall pots hand watered with tap water.
Fox Farms Ocean Forrest mixed 50/50 with Fox Farms Light Warrior and perlite.
Nutrients-BC starter kit-with Advanced Nutrients carboload, kushie kush, snow storm and sugaree(not all at once)
timer will be set to 20 hours on and 4 hours off.
The beans will be.......wait for it..........World of Seeds.....Afghan Kush Ryder of the autoflowering variety.
I know this grow will not be apples to apples, but what I am after is looking at light penetration and veg aspects of led vs. mh/hps. I will run 2 plants per tent. The enviroments are within 1 degree of each other andboth tents are vented on 1 fan. I hope you all stay tuned, and am looking forward to the next post and pics...

Welcome to the forums!

You should do better since you'll have a little over 20% more light with the SS400. I look forward to seeing more...

Thanks SME! I have both tents ready to go, pots topped off with soil, seeds soaking, and once they split and show taproot, I will press them into the soil just under the surface. When the seedlings show themselves, I will cal it day 1. Now, on to some pics.

I cannot post pic on here for some reason...i will work it out soon enough!

If you're using an apple product try installing an alternate browser or you may have to resize images over 1 meg. ;)

screen at the bottom so soil wont fall through drain/air holes. Then we put a layer of grow stones before we top off with soil.

day 9-pulled babies out of the T-5 hut and transplanted to 5 gallon pots and placd in tent 1(250w MH) and tent 2(solarstorm). All 5 came up and had their first water yesterday. I used a 2 teir plastic cup method for transplant(Auto plants stunt very easy). What you do is cut the bottom out of plastic cups, and insert them into cups with drain holes in the outside cup. Fill it with medium of your choice. Run em under T-5 lighting for a week and then pull the outside cup off and transplant the starter cup and all into your final container. The inner cup had roots comming out the bottom already(auto flowers have a fast growing tap root). They were transplanted with no stress. The T-5 starter tent was running 24 on at all times. In ther final container, I will run 20 on and 4 off. Here are some pics of the Afghan Kush Ryder...

Both lights were turned on @ 6 pm and go off for 4 hours starting @ 11 pm. Both lights will be @ 30 inches for the first 24 hours then dropped to 18- 20 inches to acclimate from the T-5's. Until next week...

Hello all!! Day 18 and All is well. Afghan Kush is right on schedule, and am having nice growth. I threw a X-Hale Co2 bag in tent #1 with the 250w MH light to give the girls a push since tent #2 had the 400(310ish watts). I cannot tell the difference in the growth between both tents, and do see a few different phenos in the plants. 1 plant in tent #2 with the solar storm is the big dog of the bunch. watering every 3 days with 6.4 ph water. will post my advanced nutrients schedule at the end of the grow. Here are some pics. Let me know any questions or comments...

Hell all, day 24. The ladies are doing rather nicely. The growth in the last week has been completely differant in both tents!! The tent #1 250w mh has stretched a bit, while tent #2 solar storm has tighter nodes and is more bushy. It will be interesting to see how the next few weeks growth will go while switching to flower nutes and additives. I will get some pics next week of 90* shots for node distance and height. Now for some pics...
