The bigger the heat load the harder the chiller has to work. 1/10 hp is tiny....

If you plan on using the icebox to cool your future HID lights, they suggest 1/4 hp per light. If you try to cut corners it might cost you more in the long run...

It's not that the chiller can't handle it, it's that the temperature can't be brought lower than 65 since it cools the dwc res as well.

If I were to set the chiller to 45, it could do it during the night, but then the water in the dwc res would be at 45 too.

So I need a separate chiller for the res, and one for the icebox. The manual says there should be a 10F differential between the targeted ambient temp and the water temp, per 1000W HID. So if I want to cool a single 1000HID, according to the manual, if I want a room at 85F, the water needs to be at 75F.

But now the water is at 70F and the room temps are at 90F and even a 20F differential isn't enough even though I only have a 600HPS+dehumidifier in terms of heat.

So my guess is, in small closed spaces, the temp differential has to be more like 30-40F.

Then the chiller can't handle the load.

Buy what you want, I'm just saying that you're overestimating the load that those chillers can handle.

The chiller CAN bring it lower, I just cant or Ill kill my roots with cold. If the water was at 50 or even 40F it would cool the tent no problem, but then the water in the DWC res would be at 50 or 40 as well. I reckon a nutrient solution at 40F is no good?

1/10 hp was stupid anyway, I should have gotten a 1/4 right off the bat.

Quit contradicting yourself. If it could handle it, you wouldn't be calling yourself stupid for not going bigger at the beginning, like I suggested on page #1. ;)

You can have a cooling res at a lower temp than the nute res since you use a coil to cool the nutes.

I'm not going to keep arguing about it. Buy small chillers and when you're buying yet another one (or looking for another cooling solution) maybe you'll remember this conversation.

I HAVE to have two chillers.

The water chilling the icebox has to be at like 40F or 50F, whereas the water cooling the coil in the DWC res has to be at 65-70F.

Even if I had purchased a bigger chiller at the beginning I would have faced this problem.

OK, you're the expert...but you're wrong.

can you explain how I can get around needing two chillers?

Unless you think I can get away with a nutrient solution that is at 45-50F?

the cool coil is part of the same loop as the cooling res! it all runs on the same chiller.

a cool coil only works if there is cooled water running through it. it doesn't cool just by being there.
