Hey PM,

Nice job there buddy...some beautiful looking buds! Looks like a lot of those hairs are starting to turn a nice red! Love that...I've been experiencing some temp and RH changes as we moved from summer (central air) into fall (open doors) as well. Things have settled a bit on the temp side..ranging from 80 lights on to 68 lights off, and I got a dehumidifier..trying to keep around 45-50...it's a fun hobby to be sure.

Looks like a dispensary is going to be opening in my town next spring, so looking forward to that too!

ICB

That won't hurt anything. :D

SME, what would be a better choice over the ecogrower? I'd really like to switch away from soil since the added cost of replacing soil will start to add up real quick. I don't have a whole lot of extra cash so I need to spend my money wisely. My job was recently outsourced to Mexico and I am currently in school. The main reason I was going for the Eco is that it fits perfectly in my grow room. Does it have issues? Is there a cheaper way to go?

Hey PM

One factor to consider for the ecogrower is you''re going to end up needing a chiller at some point. You won't be able to control water temps and will have issues with root rot. So you'll eventually need an extra $300 bucks at some point

Google a hempy bucket. Easiest and cheapest form of hydro.

Just trying to save you the hassle from what I've learned the hard way

And I just grew 2 tomato plants in my outdoor greenhouse in hempy buckets so they definitely work

The ecogrower is a drip system so it MIGHT not need a chiller but the main reasons that *I* wouldn't buy one is the configuration isn't very efficient and It's probably expensive for what you get. You can buy or build something that fits and works better and you have more than one option too.

Since you're on a budget, I'll assume that a chiller is out of the question. That rules out *DWC, NFT and Aero at least. Ebb&flow, hempybuckets and maybe a drip system could work without one. Or you could combine parts of each and build a Franken-hydro system. :D

RKY:
Before they were called hempy buckets we just called it a soilless mix. 3:1 p/v was my first jump into hydro back in the 80s, I just used big clay flower pots though. Days gone by... :D

SME: I did mine all perlite. i bought 2 huge bags to mix into my garden soil and had enough left over for 2 home depot hempy buckets. it was simple as can be and i liked it because i could use it outside too.

if you mounted the airpump for the ecogrower out of the grow room that might help keep temps down. now that i finally broke down and bought a chiller, i kick myself for not doing it back when i started with 5 gal DWC. i'd have more hair on my head now for sure. it solves almost all root issues in DWC, etc

PM, check out some DIY ebb and flow ideas on the internet. i saw one using a concrete mixing tub that is very cheap and easy to make. a few fittings for the overflow and fill and not too much more parts wise.

I just hate working with perlite and vermiculite, it sticks to everything and gets everywhere. I spilled a bag of perlite in my garage several years ago and I still find it around the house sometimes. It works, don't get me wrong, I just don't like handling it or the mess it becomes. I've never had hydroton stick to my clothes or hair and I've never accidently dragged hydroton into my house from my grow rooms. ;)

i know what you mean. i spilled the bag in my garage in spring and i still have perlite in every nook and cranny

....but hydroton hurts like hell when you step on it in barefeet on a hard surface.

SME< have you ever done ebb&flow? if so, how would you compare growth rate to DWC ?
