SME and ICB,

Hey y'all, I have used for many yrs a vacuum sealing system to store my smoke. I used to put it in a plastic container and then into a large vacuum seal bag. Now they have come out with a system the seals the lids on bell or like jars.
It removes the air from the jars and seals them tight. I do burp the jars every month or so and depending on the texture of the buds I may leave them open for a few hours before resealing. I have kept buds fresh feeling and smoking for a good year at a time. I will us this same method during my cure.

Next time I open a jar to get some stash out I will take some pictures of this system.

I use the vacuum system for yrs mainly to freeze and seal meals to keep in the freezer for when I don't feel like cooking. Just pull a package of pasta sauce or gumbo out of the freeze and put the package in a pot of boiling water to heat it. Works like a charm.

Just though I would add to this topic.

Yeah, jars have worked for decades but glass lets in light which can also degrade THC so be sure to store jars in the dark. You could throw a boveda pack in a jar to keep the right humidity, I'm not sure but vacuum sealing might be a bit dry. A lot of people do it though. ;)

SME, I am not sure either, but will find out, I would think that if it is sealed air tight the moisture would not escape except when I air the jars. Very good point, I will look into that.

Thanks

I know they use a vacuum for AC units because water boils at a lower temp in a vacuum but that system might pull a deeper vac and hold it for a longer time. Just something to think about.

Hey all...thanks for the feedback on drying/curing. SME, I looked into the CVault, and it looks like a great idea for me. In the past, I've been plagued with the lingering "homegrown" smell...after studying it sounds like I didn't get enough of the chlorophyll out before putting them into a jar (I think??).

I'm just trying to figure out the right size(s) to get...as I have multiple strains, I want to be sure to keep them separate, so likely looking at getting at least 4 of them...but they need to be able to hold at least 60+ grams each...

Ok, on with the weekly update!

CBD Critical Mass...it is finally harvest day...all hairs are red, and I've got 50%+ amber trichomes!!! Psyched...It took 70 days of flowering to get here...out of the 20 days with light leakage, I had to add 15 back to the end of the process...so 55 days on total and complete darkness...which, conveniently, is what CBD says on their packaging!!

Northern Light Blue..this baby is really coming along nicely, and looks to be about 1-2 weeks away. Some serious blues and purples coming through now...it's a beautiful plant, with over a dozen large buds in addition to the huge cola here..the yellowing of the leaves seems to be getting better now...I've dropped the food level down to 15ml/gallon for this week and next...

The Blueberry is also coming along nicely, and has some girth to her...But I have a question...it looks like there are some weird white noodle-like growths coming out of the top of her...bigger than hairs (they have all turned red)...haven't seen this before..any ideas??

Aren't those neat? I think you could *probably* get 60g in the "large" but I'd suggest going bigger (xl or even the 4L) than you need so you have room for more later. Perhaps a mix of sizes? I also keep a medium for my personal stash by my desk. :D

That grass smell can get nasty; don't dry too fast or too much, exchange the air often during the base cure. (this is where the cvault/boveda solution shines, imho) After a month you won't need to exchange the air as often but the longer you cure the better it gets...up to a point I'm sure. ;)

Thanks SME...I was thinking about the XL...I just measured my pots and pans trying to get an idea of the volume...as you point out, bigger would be better, don't want to squeeze nuggets in there!

Real quick...on my last picture, I pointed out some new growth on the top of the Blueberry...bigger than hairs...white, noodle like growths...I think you can see them ok in the last pic.

Any idea what these are??

Thanks

You're growing spaghetti plants...

No, it's just new hairs that haven't dried up and turned red. ;)

Thanks SME...this light puts to shame anything else I have ever experienced...another learning experience!

I just ordered four of the 4L CVaults...9"x5.5"...figured that would hold everything from a good sized plant, start to finish, keeping my strains separate. Great recommendation.

I moved up a size from the XL based on my experience this afternoon...I harvested just the TOP HALF of the CBD Critical Mass...and wow do I have some buds!!!

I will harvest the rest of it within a week, depending on what I see the plant doing...I put a box under its pot, to raise it to the canopy top...just thinking out loud here...if there is concern about trimming while flowering causing stress to the plant...and I just harvested the top half of it...will the stress freak the plant out, or will the lower buds continue to grow??

I know you usually harvest the entire plant at once, but since I only grew 4 plants this time around, I wanted to maximize the potential output.

Thanks,

Anytime you prune/cut/trim it causes some stress but if you have a good stain it shouldn't turn hermaphroditic. I harvest all at once because I'm too lazy to stagger the harvest and I usually have plants waiting in veg for the space. You should be fine... ;)
