just looking at pix "leaves frosty" and "see the leaves".
i think, all the leaves in the "leaves frosty" pic gets swallowed up by the bud growth. so those same leaves are still there but the flower has gotten bigger and covers them up.
i think the fan leaves on some of the later pix do look bare but from what i know the fan leaves don't get too many trichs anyway. i think it's mostly the what i call sugar leaves that are imbedded in the flower get the majority of the trichs. as well as the other parts of the flower.
from all the pix, i think they look perfect. i wouldn't change anything for the next grow.
I guess that does make sense, I never had anywhere near the density of buds like this before, they really did plump up nicely. The CLW light performed quite nicely for me (I am comparing them to fluorescent lights...I have never used any form of HID lighting)...but these buds are definitely on par with any high end greenery I ever came across (as least in terms of look/feel...still curing before sampling).
I took out the CBD to weigh it up now that it is completely dried out....48 grams! Not too bad from a single plant (I think??)...This is completely trimmed, with an additional 8 grams of trimmed leaves and fluff in my freezer for later use...
So should I use the 48 g. trimmed bud, or 56 g. all in, for g/watt calculations?
Also, SME, the aroma is starting to come back now...not sure what the first week was all about!
Here is what they look like today...the top cola is still pretty to look at!!

The main cola, dried, measures nearly 6" long and 2.25" across at its widest...and weighs 16 grams all by itself!!
Only use the dried flowers, not the trim in the calculations.
Disclaimer: I still use HID and I'm NOT an LED expert. All of my LED knowledge is from other parties or research so I can't say from first hand experience one way or another. I also run a medical grow consulting business in SoCal.
Thanks for the feedback as always. I am really enthusiastic about my results so far (again, still waiting to check on the taste/effect after the cure)...but judging by the look, feel and smell, I am looking forward to the New Year!
Before I decide on what I grow next time around, I kind of want to see how I like the effects from Indica, as I have never in my life actually known what strain I was smoking aside from a horrible experience with Blue Dream (acute anxiety attack)...it was way too strong for me...and I have smoked pretty much on a daily basis for over 30 years...(supposedly including Thai stick in Thailand, Lambsbreath in Jamaica and Maui Waui in Hawaii... but who can really know for sure??). Because of this experience, and the descriptions of Sativa=cerebral/euphoric/high energy buzz vs. Indica=couch lock/pain relief/sedative/relaxing body buzz, I went entirely with Indica this grow.
I'm wondering if a 75/25 or even a 50/50 hybrid would be worth my investment of time and money...don't really know how to answer this question without sampling what I have grown...as there are no dispensaries open in my state yet.
Any thoughts, personal experiences or advice on this topic?
On a separate note, after drying for about 2 weeks, I took the trimmings and fluff from my first three plants (White Rhino, Northern Light Blue and CBD Critical Mass), and put them into mason jars in the freezer in preparation for some winter activities!!
Lo and behold, as I was doing this, a single SEED popped out of the fluff...I have no idea which plant it came from...and I never saw any male flowers in any of the plants at all during harvest...is it possible to have a seed grow absent any male pollen? I know you can find an occasional white false seed, but this is a true seed, well developed....I'm planning on germinating it to see what happens..if it sprouts, then I could tell by the plant when it grows what strain it is...but if I missed a male flower, how exciting a concept that it could be a potential cross between one of these!!!
Ok, enough for now....any thoughts on either of these topics?
So here's the second to last update to my first grow journal. The final update will be after the smoke test around New Years, and also to reveal my plans for the second journal, if y'all will let me stay Want to put some lessons learned to use!
Ok, here is the chopped and dried weight, all are now in the CVaults curing.
White Rhino (harvested early due to plant damage) 31 grams CBD Crew Critical Mass...48 grams Northern Light Blue...42.8 grams Blueberry...57.9 grams.
A total of 179.7 grams...so I got .5445 grams per watt. Not so bad for a newbie, only 4 plants, and plenty of mistakes!
Overall, this experiment confirms my satisfaction with my SS400. From seedling to harvest, nothing but the SS400 was used for light. The grow took a little longer than expected on the calendar, but that was "owner error" that caused light leakage...twenty days impact.
I didn't feed the plants until the final 4 weeks of the flowering stage...I relied on the nutrients included in a combination of Fox Farms OF and HF... I let them get root bound for about a week, neglected to properly manage the PH, and had numerous feeding/burning/deficiency issues...so next grow there are definite areas for improvement
Way to go my friend, Hope I come close to that as a percentage, due to only growing 2 plants. Look forward to your next grow. I will be posting during my next grow.
I just looked at Q2...looks like you'll be doing quite nicely there! So, to wrap this first experiment up (still pending the smoke test)...I had some fun this weekend and took all my trimmings and fluff, and made 5.7 grams of fine blonde hash powder. A sprinkle here and there in the vaporizer is quite therapeutic...(bad pain days).
Ok, so for all the best laid plans...the stars had something else in mind for me and my next grow. An early Christmas gift came to my door via an old friend...who surprised me with 5 clones..three LA Confidential, one Liberty Haze, and a Skunk * Northern Lights...4 of them about 3" tall, and look healthy...unfortunately, the Liberty Haze is looking yellow and droopy...fingers crossed.
Never grew clones before, so this is gonna be an interesting challenge to get them going.
I will start a new thread for this experiment going forward, and come back here around New Years Eve after the smoke test!
I got a surprise today also, my friend from NM call and said he is sending me some White Widow from his last grow.n Said he knew I had to be running low and sending it so I don't stress during the final weeks of my grow, LOL.
