400w solarstorm, cbd yummy, la con & bc mystery

Postby azores » Sun Dec 08, 2013 12:47 am

Thanks for looking. I did a trial run with the ss400 a while back, kept it, and have had a few nice grows with it since. I live in hawaii, the cost of electricity is very high and it gets hot. I've liked the savings I've had by getting rid of the 1kw portable ac. Not that the ss doesn't put out serious heat, it does, but I used the dwcled's air cooling system early on in that first grow and that pretty much stabilized things. So thanks again for that. One thing I have changed out since is the centrifugal fan that I was using to cool the light. Now I use a Panasonic whisperline inline fan, which is really super quiet and keeps the little room cool enough with just a passive air intake.

So for this one I'm changing it up a little with the food. I'll be using biocanna, which is derived from only non-animal sources. I like the idea of that. Let's see how it goes.

I'll be growing from seed - 2 x cbd crew yummy. I grew one of these last time and really liked how it came out.
1 x DNA la woman - attitude freebie
1 x bc bud depot mystery seed (maybe mango). From a long ago order and it's unlabeled, the others are fems but this one is a question mark.

I like to use an earthbox because it fits nicely in the tub I built this room around, and I can go long stretches without watering. It takes two cf of potting media and has a three gallon reservoir at the bottom, and operates as a wick system. It's great for the lazy gardener. Think really big hempy. If I go away for any length of time, I just leave it on a drip.

All of the seeds just cracked a few days ago, so I'll get some pictures up when they get their first set. Oh and: medically licensed, personal medical use, etc, etc.

Question, comments, suggestions are all welcome.

Aloha, welcome back!

I'm looking forward to pictures of this one. ;)

Thanks sme. Unfortunately, I don't have a work light in there right now. That and early days make for a pretty weak update.

I will be switching to 12/12 tomorrow, and then away until the 27th.

In the photo, bottom right is mystery, top right and bottom left yummy, and top left la woman.

Happy holidays.

Those aren't seedlings anymore. ;)

My biggest concern with that "earthbox" is the plants are so close together that they could get a bit crowded. Wick systems work fine though. :D

It definitely gets crowded. The biggest problem is untangling the early finishers from those that take a little longer. I think it actually cuts down on overall yield as well because I'm almost going straight to 12/12, but I like the greater variety vs greater yield. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

Some good news: the mystery plant is female. So it was either a fem'd bean or I drew a female. So while that does exacerbate the crowding situation, I'm happy to have the extra variety and it's fun to have an unknown strain to finish. Fingers crossed it matures into something good.

How's it going AZ, I like wick systems, a friend of mine runs a wick and he is able to go on vacations and come back with no problems. Looks like your getting very good growth. Any pictures without the purple glow? Lol

Perhaps moving to 2 earthboxes over the same wick reservoir instead of 1? ;)

Your spot on about the ability to bail for long periods. I'd love to do two liter hempy's in that space (w/clones), but they need attention every other day or so. With this, I've been away as long as two weeks and no problems.

I'll try to get a work light back in there tomorrow night. I had one when I was satisfying my gfp journal commitment, but after that it was just getting in the way. It would be great if there was a switch to turn off the led's but leave the t5. I use spectrum aquarium bulbs in the t5 spots until their ready for the uv (every little bit helps!).

I actually have another eb, and it was like an inch too wide when I tried to slot the two of them in there together. I thought of putting them like that on top of the tub with support, but then I'd lose ~2ft of vertical. But, yeah, that's a good idea and those wick systems are easy enough to make from Rubbermaid bins that I ought to just purpose build one that fills up that part of the tub.
