I've never grown with just MH before but I'm sure it's been done; before MH/HPS we used MV (Mercury Vapor) lights. MV wasn't as efficient. I never checked the heat differences either. Yes, Sativas do tend to stretch more than indicas but there are always a few exceptions I suppose.
You can get either MH or HPS bulbs that use lead-free glass (better hoods use it too) so they don't block the UV spectra and you can get enhanced blues in some HPS bulbs.

The plants under the SS seem to be stretching very little. The plants all seem happy with the new light and lack of heat and the buds are all starting to form as per usual though I wonder if the lack of stretch should be considered a lack of growth in general.

Plant in the middle is silver pearl, it was added four days ago
Well this past Wednesday I added another plant under the clw light. This time it was an OG clone that I've kept for the last four or five years. This og is from Northern California sometime around 92-93 so she's pretty old and finnicky. It stretches more than any other strain I've ever grown so I'm hoping the led will keep her tamed down a bit. This plant is also the longest flower I do at ten weeks, hopefully the clw can bring that down a bit as well. I'll try to get some pictures up ASAP.
Some plants stretch more than others so I wouldn't read too much into that unless you've grown them before and know that they should be stretching more. Time will tell...

. I've grown all of the strains that Ive put under the CLW for at least three years except for the BLZbud, she's a new one. Everything seems to be coming along nicely. I started another OG Kush under the CLW this past sunday and then started a Big Buddha Cheese two days ago bringing the plant total under the CLW to nine. The first plant to get harvested out of the nine should be the Sour Hindu Kush on May 20th because she's typically 7 wks to finish. I've heard other growers claim that LED's shorten the flower times for some strains so I will be keeping an eye on things to see if any of my harvest dates move around.
Sorry I haven't been on to post, I've recently been called back to work and I am working a bunch of overtime. Everything has been progressing well and I'm very impressed by the density of the buds under the clw light.
Other than the ram's horn and leaf twisting they look pretty good. How far along are they now?
