Solarstorm 440 Dwarf grow

Postby Xylem » Fri May 02, 2014 8:15 am

This is the journal of a first time grower. Two Buddha White Dwarf autos in a 3X3 Secret Garden. Seeds soaked for 17hrs and put on April 11 into 3 gallon pots 2/3 filled with FF Ocean Forest and Happy Frog mixed 50/50. Soil was prewatered with non ph tested water (oops) then misted daily for a few days. April 14 they showed, designated Day 0.

Now, in the context of light which is the focal point of CLW's interest in the grower program this is how the 440 fit in. April 11th, soaking day I tried to contact CLW to order. April 15th I was invoiced. April 21st it was shipped. Late April 25th it arrived. April 26th it was implemented,on Day 12 of the grow. Till then, DAY 0 they went inches under a 13 watt cfl each and were misted daily. DAY 4 they were falling over so they got cups of water and were moved into the tent and put inches under a 110watt/10,000 lumen T5. Also got a little humidifier because I just read that RH should be 60% and mine was 27%. It's since been 45-51%. DAY 12 they went under the 440 on veg setting at 29 inches. I anxed that growth was retarded (still am) so DAY 13 added 160 cfl watts alongside.

Water:Misting from germinating stage through Day 3. 4 cups watering Day 4. Similar volume on Day 9 with FF Big Bloom added (forgot to ph test after adding BB). Watered Day 14 till runoff with water ph tested to 6.5 after adding BB. Today, Day 18 it's dry on top but moisture meter says there's moisture down under and there's no sign of droopiness. Almost time though.

Conditions as of yesterday, May 1st, DAY 17: In tent, two 6 inch circ fans (no other ventilation equipment or filter), humidifier, 440 in veg at 27 inches and 160 florescent watts. 77-81*, 45-51% RH.

Buddha says these babies should finish around 2 feet, but if that's so I don't know how they're going to get there. Day 17, 5 inches tall? The log is below. Plant 1 and Plant 2 vertical growth and adg(average daily growth) to smooth where I neglected to measure some day(s).

day1 plant1adg plant2adg
1 0.5 0.75
2 1.25 0.75 1.5 0.75
3 2 0.75 2.25 0.75
4
6 2.5 0.17 2.5 0.08
7 2.5 0.00 3 0.50
9 2.5 0.00 3 0.00
10 3 0.50 3.25 0.25
11 3.5 0.50 3.5 0.25
12 3.5 0.00 3.5 0.00
13 3.5 0.00 3.5 0.00
14 4 0.50 4 0.50
16 4.75 0.38 4.5 0.25
17 5.25 0.50 4.5 0.00

That's it for now. I'm exhausted form doing this. It logged me off the first time I wrote this or something like it and I lost everything. Didn't see the save draft button. Any constructive criticism welcome. Pix to follow. (Please don't laugh).

Day 11 plant 2 here, not above. It wouldn't let me add both files. 1 MB max or something. Actually it's this file alone I can't add. I'll try Day 13 plant 1 on the right. No luck...........
Let's try today plant 1 on the right.
Nope. Says:The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 1 MiB.
Posting to this forum has been a challenge so far. Haven't seen any complaints about it yet. Must be me. I'm gonna go try to retake today's pix in smaller file size. It's not easy to retake last week's..........

Very different sizes.

May 4th. Day 20. Haven't added any nutes as of yet. Leaving it up to the Ocean Forest guano and worm castings to tow the line. I'm looking for the plants to tell me when they're hungry although by the next watering it'll be hard to resist at least 1/4 strength grow nute. Meanwhile, I noticed to day a modest change in the complexion of a couple of the lower leaves on my #1 baby. A little droopy and some lightly colored speckles. Early stage nitrogen or magnesium deficiency? I would bet the latter. Or maybe I'm being too fussy. Look:

What I don't know can speak volumes, but I am attentive. Till next time.........

If your pH is good then I'd look at magnesium... ;)

Only time I checked runoff it was 5.8. Since I use FF soil and used Big Bloom in that watering and since I use General Hydro ph tester I bounced it off them why it dropped and they both said not to put too much into interpreting it. I put in 6.5 or so. Maybe I could supplement some calmag as a preventative. Hearsay has it led lighting and calmag deficiencies go hand in hand.

I usually add cal/mag to every feeding or plain water feeding. Both my plants are in Ff as well and when they were younger in veg they browned out as well. That's why I am trying out the sunshine mix now.
