New LED User

Postby MadDog » Wed May 14, 2014 12:26 pm

Hello. This is my first grow ever. I did a lot of research before jumping in and decided to get an LED from California Light Works. I went small at first and got only a 200 full cycle planning on switching to a bigger 440 0r 880w at a later date. However, i never got the bigger light due to financial reasons. None the less my plant is doing great with just the older 200w. I'm actually impressed with the results so far. My next grow is going to be with a larger unit maybe.

I wanted to grow some autos next grow. I also wanted to have one grow tent with plants at different stages since autos call for 18/6 cycle throughout their life cycle. This way i can have a perpetual harvest. Most people I talk to say they change there lights from veg to bloom when they see buds forming with autos. My full cycle seems to be doing well though. Can I just use 4 X 220w full cycle lights for my one tent plan? Is that the equivalent of a 880w solar storm minus the uvb lights? I'm not sure if wattage works like normal math.

hey maddog,

how big is the tent?

4 200's would be similar to 1 800 as far as LED goes. HID would be different: 1 1000 is not the same as 1 600 and 1 400. the 1000HID would have much deeper penetration than the 600 and 400. but all the LED's are the same 5 watters so penetration would be identical.

I think you'll find that it's harder to keep the canopy level when you have different sized plants in the same area but it certainly can be done just by putting something (stable and waterproof) under the shorter plants or by using multiple lights. It'll be more work, that's for sure, but there are pros and cons to every growing decision we make. ;)

Disclaimer:
I still use HID and I'm NOT an LED expert. All of my LED knowledge is from other parties or research so I can't say from first hand experience one way or another. I also run a medical grow consulting business in SoCal.
