complete newbie

Postby smokie045 » Tue May 27, 2014 9:27 am

Hello all,

I live in a medical marijuana state and plan to be a caregiver for my uncle with rheumatoid arthritis. In order to do this my wife wants me to use led lights( she's scared of a fire).I've been looking at the clw 880 s s and the lumigeow pro 650 to be used in a 4 x4 tent. I have a budget of 2000 to 2500,I'll be paying for the set up ( my uncle can't afford anything other than medical bills). Thanks for you input.

hey smokie,

you have a good budget but I like starting at the end and working backwards to figure out what you need. Both of those LED's are top notch. Either one would be a great choice.

How much finished product do you need per month?

Do you have any growing experience?
Max number of plants at a time?

Hey rkymtnman,

I have absolutely no experience growing. Not sure how much product I need, currently my uncle uses around an ounce a month. He says somewhere between an ounce or to would be perfect( that's all he can afford from a dispensary).
I have just found out that cow has chosen me for their grower feed back program so I'll be using the ss 880. Other than that not sure what else I'll be using for the grow.Again thanks for your input and any tips will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

good. we've got your light figured out.

now you've got one major choice to make: soil or hydroponics. each one has pluses and minuses. i started with hydro and never tried dirt.

if you just need one oz per month, you could probably get by with 2 grows per year. if you get .5gram/watt (which is not too hard), you have 400 grams per harvest which is 14 oz. or 2 oz/month. that way your uncle should have plenty to spare.

can you get clones in your state? or seeds?
do you have a plant count that you must stay under?

Rkymtman

I do live in a state where I can get seeds and clones, up to 12 plants.
I think I'm going to go with soil at least for the first couple grows.

Hello all,

Alright I have paid for the as 880 and its on its way.I found a tent package for the 880 and was thinking I would just buy the components listed in the package. Let me know what you think.
Gorilla tent 5x5 (only plan to use 4x4 for flower)
Can fan 6' 270 cfm
Apollo digital 2 outlet timer
Phresh filter 6x 16 This is very important I'm hoping for no smell. Is that big enough?
Other miscellaneous pieces hangers, ducting, clamps
Would like any suggestions on oscillating fans , running fans for 24/7 scares me.

I would get a 4x4 (or 5x5 if you want more room) tent and only use 3x3 for flower. ;)

I've never had problems with fans other than noise or just dying but better fans might last longer. *shrug*

Hello,

SME suggested a 4x4 tent 3x3 for flower. My goal is to grow top notch meds. I was hoping for only two grows a year to reach a goal of 24 oz.
How many plants can I fit in 3x3 for flower , I know that depends on strain. But just a general question if anyone has used a 3x 3 how many did you fit?

"Young man...give me that knife. Thank you..."

It depends on more than strain but genetics can't be ignored either. Do you know what you want to grow? With the SS880w and new growers, I'd say 4, 5 or 9 depending on many other factors like grow style, environmental conditions and seed vs clones. Remember, since LED lights don't penetrate very well you have to keep them shorter which means it takes more plants to fill an area. Luckily, 3x3 isn't very big. I'd suggest Indica or indica hybrids. Some of our newer growers are doing autos maybe you could try those. Autos don't usually yield as much but if you keep them happy and healthy then 2-3 grows per year isn't out of the question. With fine tuning and the right genetics, you might get some strains to cover his needs in 1 grow per year but don't count on that from the start. ;)
