powering up to 80 10w led.

Postby jreed420 » Thu Feb 05, 2015 4:38 pm

Hey y'all, I'm sort of a new to led DIY and recently purchased a bunch of 10w leds to make my own grow light panel. I am using 80-100 10w 12v 1050mA led bulbs and am wondering if anyone can tell me what the best way to power them would be? How many different circuits would I need to run? Should I run them in a series or parallel? Any advice would be great!

The easiest way is to buy an off the shelf LED driver. You will still have to set up LED's such that they use what ever voltage it produces, and usually that means putting certain number in series. Just know one thing, running a high power LED light is not just as easy as powering them on a board. ALL high output LED grow lights have massive heat sinks, and without them, the LED cannot be run anywhere near full power. So unless you are an accomplished Electrical engineer, I do not think you will be satisfied with what you get attempting to build your own. I advise buying well designed units like the CLW line. IMHO of course..

That and with led light penetration issues i would myself rather stick with a 1w 3w or 5w. That way you can keep leds closer to the plants. Check out Phillips. They have been researching a perfect led light bar for horticulture for a while now. They actually decided on a 1 w.... Now why you ask... cause you can keep a 1w extremely close to a plant with you serious consequence My Local hydro store just got a pair of them.... I am actually kinda interested in them to stick them in to the corners of my 3x3 with my 2 SS above
