Got my fingers crossed that I don't have any issues for the next month.
I turn the UV on when I switch to 12/12. The sun always emits UV so why not the SS400. I think the plant produces more trichs to protect itself from "sunburn". There is a good Youtube video about the effects of UV and MJ. The main argument is that the strongest/potent weed is close to the equator. I guess high altitudes too because of being closer to the sun.

Had some free time yesterday and got my DIY carbon scrubber up and running.
Here's the parts (no tools required)
6 inch gas chimney

replacement odor pre-filter

The filters are perfect size for the width of the chimney. They aren't quite long enough to wrap all the way around so I used both and had a bit of overlap. Only 20 bucks for the filters and they should last the whole grow before they need to be replaced.
Very nice if it works for cannabis odors but I'm not sure about the economics.
"Parts total = $30 compared to $90 for a pre-made one." "Only 20 bucks for the filters and they should last the whole grow before they need to be replaced."
So, IF it works and lasts for a 3 month grow, then you'd need 3 extra sets of filters for a total cost of $90/yr which is the price you listed for the new pre-made one that lasts over a year. You *can* get the pre-made 6" for as low as $60 but the $90 versions are probably a bit better.
I do like the idea for those starting up on a budget or for an emergency backup kind of thing. Easy and cheap enough to keep a couple around in case you need them. I still think I'd take the cheaper pre-made that needs less/no maintenance though.
Good job!

I just wanted to build one to test to see if it works. We went out for errands Saturday and when we got home, my wife opened the door and when I got within 10 feet, I was overwhelmed with MJ odor. Did the same thing today and now I have to go into the closet where the filter/fan is located before I could smell it. So a definite improvement. We only have one neighbor we can see so I'm not overly concerned with odor but it was way too strong before.
I'm going to try to source a different filter. I'm thinking more of a commercial/industrial sized one that I can cut down to size. I think that 20 bucks was expensive but it was nice as it was the correct width. Or If I can find one that is same width but longer, then I wouldn't have to use both filters. But I think i'm on the right path so far............. I'm part Scottish so we are a bit on the cheap side, laddy! I think Dangerfield once joked that the shortest line in the world is for a Scottish pay toilet. LOL
On a side note, would you believe that the tip burn I got about 2.5 weeks ago was from an EC of only 1.02??? That's only 500ppm for those who don't use EC. It has got to do something with my altitude (IMHO of course). What say you?
Nothing wrong with experimenting...unless it's in Bangkok.
I just think the cheap pre-made ones are cheaper in the long run, work better and require less work. Still great for a quick fix that doesn't cost a lot. Lets see how long they last, maybe we'll both be surprised.
1.0 EC = 500ppm on a .5 scale meter; on a .7 scale meter it'd be 700ppm.

Hahaha, no experimenting in Bangkok. I made sure they were all "innies" and not "outies" if you catch my drift.
The chart that I go by for PPM is this:
seedling/early sprout 100-250ppm early veg 300-400ppm full veg 450-700ppm early bloom 750-950ppm full bloom 1000-1600ppm
I wrote down on the chart that it was based on .5 conversion. Your saying it's more like the .7 conversion??? And that's why I went with EC from the beginning. Based on .7, it is close but on the low end for early bloom. Not as far off as I thought then.
Where did you get that chart? Those are mighty broad ranges.
I'm saying that some meters (and therefore some charts) are based on different conversion factors because some people (other members) don't know which conversion factor their meters use. If that chart said that it was based on .5 and your calibrated and accurate meter is .5 then you need to find out why the formula isn't working for your grow and adjust.

That's the part I'm not sure about. Maybe it is a .7 chart but I'm using it as .5 (but I actually use a EC meter so I was just halving my EC).
Do the ranges look more like a .7 or a .5?
And do you have a chart that is a bit more tuned in/accurate that you can share? I know there are a lot of other variables to consider as well strain,lights,heat/humid,CO2, etc.
Some meters can be calibrated with either conversion but EC is EC. Either way, the beauty of a fine tuned LF in hydro is that the EC/PPM will be the same from veg to harvest, assuming that you're not adding other stuff, of course. I like to keep it simple...
