Compared to clones as well as feminized seeds, regular seeds are a whole other monster. I got into some regular seeds last year and got my feet wet for sure. The way I count weeks maybe different, per my reading and researching most growers call the week that you flip your lights to be a transition time. So I start counting weeks of flowering after that transition week. After a week in actual flowering I examine those top flowers for pistils which is tricky. Secondly I look at the nodes below the top flower as those highest nodes are going to be more mature. A male plant will have several small, cylindrical pollen sacs vertically risen from the node. Per my current grow there was around three pollen sacs per node.
Like someone had said early in a post, you could clone to sex. I used to wonder why I couldn't see the signs late in veg or with in the transition period. A week or two into flower is well ahead of pollen dropping.
It is difficult to let your eyes adjust to the LED, by the time they do it is probably really unhealthy. I want some of those LED glasses, but they are kind of pricey. I will give in eventually.

You can always turn off the LED grow lights and use regular lighting to do a quick inspect (and to take pictures ) without hurting anything and it's easier to spot problems.

Thank you for the quick responses and such a detailed description! Your help is really appreciated, now I have 2 solid ways to determine sex of plants, in any garden.
method #1 - clones. probably quickest and easiest method #2 - after transitional period, a week or so into actual flower, check the nodes below the top flower for cylindrical pollen sacs vertically risen from the node. I think these are both useful in different situations.
SME.....I actually have not seen the plants without the LED's on.. haha Should have done it earlier.. they seem to look nice I guess, any opinions? I think they seem to be a lil yellow cuz i was using a cheap old florescent, but I will keep an eye on it..
If anyone sees any thing I can do to help up yield, or just make the plants better in any way. lemme know. Thanks, CL

Have you ever had a realization that you really know nothing.. and people have already mastered what you are working on??
yeah.... that happened to me, when I bought this new book this week. shortly after browsing thru it I realize that I know pretty much nothing about using scrog to increase yield.
This is the third time I have used a scrog (my current $hitty style) and I have always been happy with the results, I have copied my setup from other forums and youtube videos but compared to what they are doing in this book!! ...yeah.... mine is sad.
live and learn, styles evolve, always something to look forward to. starting to veg out and train clone for a PROPER scrog under this light, for next run. peace, CL

haha!! u know that there are no real "secrets" in growing, and the title is kinda misleading.. but it will be a good place to start, cuz i was copying the wrong ppl.. CL
These plants are doing nice, but I started thinking.. What would a side by side test look like with HPS? Put new plant and in there, it is going to be 2 weeks behind the LED but it should give a sign as to which flowers are fatter/more resin/smell better or whatever..
It has been in there 2 days and the ones in the middle of the HPS and LED (not directly under either) are STILL pointing at the LED... so yeah that SS400 is putting out some serious light, even if the HPS "seems brighter" Also the UV on the SS400 is turned on. Thanks, CL
Comparison grows are fun. What size HPS is that? Why are there no ducts to cool that HPS hood?
