All righty then, I haven't changed anything. 180 watt Blackstar is still in the room. To me, it looks very promising (sometimes a little patience is all that is needed). Today is day 43 of flower, and progress has gotten a bit better. I have noticed that the supercropped tops are heavier, and more developed. Appears to be a worthwhile exercise, maybe a little earlier than I did. Plants continue to grow to the lights, but also are adding weight. Nagging doubts are beginning to fade, and this grow is really getting to be fun. If these 5 amazons are any indication, these lights will work well on larger plants. I may consider adding another 800w Solar Storm to my next grow, for a total of 2000w. Maybe the folks at CLW would be willing to throw in a sizeable discount? OK enough begging, here are some pix taken with the lights on.

Here is the rest of the pictures that I took. OK, so I got carried away. I was in a really good mood, and it was time for show and tell.

Turn the MUZAK up, and ROCK ON!!!!

All of that internodal stretch may actually help you with penetration this time. I don't know if it's genetics or lighting but the 5w diodes will penetrate that mesh better than it would if they were thick and bushy. You might get a lot of smaller, fluffy popcorn buds but if you don't mind that and it still medicates well then you should be able to repeat or improve on the next one.

Please don't forget to take pics with normal lighting that my human eyes can decode too. With LED lighting it's hard to get a taste of true plant colors and health. Just a request, not a demand.

Today is day 47 of flower. Slowly but surely, they're putting on weight. To me it looks like perhaps another three weeks should do the trick. Like I've said before, this is the first time for this strain. Might be time to sell off my old lighting equipment. These girls seem to like to eat, 1800 ppm at around 5.5 ph, 21/2 gallons twice a day. The PH in the pots is around 6.6 to 6.8 and the solution going in is 5.4 to 5.5 ph, so I believe they are using the difference. Thoughts?

Overall, these look pretty healthy to me. Remember, there are only 5 plants in there, and they have filled a space roughly 6'x6' to a little over 5' in height. I have a theory about taking pictures under the lights. The red/ orange glow shows penetration and the farther in the glow goes the better the penetration. The longer this grow goes the happier I get. BTW the flowers are pretty dense and should finish like marbles.

Here are some pix from this morning.

Most weight is put on in the last 2-4 weeks so that makes sense that they'd be packing it on now. If they look healthy and are growing the way they should then you're doing something right and perhaps it's just the genetics that make them stringy. Time and yield will tell for sure. ;)

I took my plants down about a week ago. It was time. The bud really filled out and I had to stake all of them with two weeks left to go. These sativas turned out to be almost fragile with the weight of flowers. They really produced, and i expect to harvest a pretty good weight. Don't forget, I only grew five plants. Normally, I'd cut them and hang them to dry in a dark, cool, breezy place. It could get pretty messy, but this time, I took it bud by bud and manicured every one. Then onto a drying rack, suspended in the same place. Much cleaner this time, but verrrrrry sticky. Still drying as we speak ( I hate that phrase). It is almost time to arrive at SME's magical gpw figure, and I have high hopes, but I'm also very interested in weight per plant. In all, I am very impressed with these lights, we'll see.

Before I forget, back at the beginning of flower, I supercropped some of the developing colas, no more than 8 or 9 at most. Those ended up producing results that were 2x the wet weight of the rest of the crop. The bud looked like golf balls packed together about 1/4 to 1/2 inch apart and overall about 18-24" long (no exageration). This sour diesel produced less than 1/2 the foilage of my previous white widow runs, and was easy to trim. They got fresh nutes every day, because I mixed in a 21/2 gallon watering can of RO water. Very economical use of nutrients, and the humidity never really got above 70% in the room which, I believe helped to keep pests and disease out. Truth be told though, I did have some problems with gnats in the last 2-3 weeks. I got supreme pleasure out of the yellow sticky traps, which snared the little bastards!

I also believe that the lights that I used resulted in less stress on the plants than the HID lights I've always used. I had a theory that the more light the better, no matter the source of that light. However, I am beginning to understand the law of diminishing returns. There is a balance that needs to be struck in the grow room that beyond which, the result doesn't warrant the added expense of additional equipment. In my case, I believe that with the addition of another 400w solarstorm, I can double my production on the next run. Two things need to happen first. Number one is that the dried weight needs to be good enough to pay for my work. Number two, my product needs to be well received by the dispensaries. We'll see.
ROCK ON!

Some results: After drying the total trimmed bud weight was 23.5 oz. This should easily cover the cost of my grow. Everything is curing in three 1gallon, wide mouth jars. I'll give them another 30 days or so in there, and then out to see what kind of reaction these meds get at the dispensaries. Now for some calculations.

1200w of Solarstorm LEDs = 930w of draw
23.5 oz x 28g/oz = 658g
gpw = 658/930 = .71gpw

5 plants = 4.7 oz per plant

You can decide if this was a successful run. As for me, I am very happy, and plan to add another 400w Solarstorm. This time I'll use my own clones, keep the plants a little smaller, run 8 plants, and shoot for 3lbs. I guess that I have already decided this run worked out very well. This was the first time using LEDS, the first time for this strain, and the plants were salvaged from a friends leftovers. I am a pretty happy guy. ROCK ON!

.71g/w isn't bad but with some tweaking you could probably do better. We know that the lights are capable of more but there are many factors so each grow and each grower is different.
