hey frank

are you building the rdwc or is it pre-built?? i've got some ideas for a DIY unit that i hope to have up and testing in a month or so.

i think i'm going to be using the SS400 for veg and the first 2 weeks of bloom and then bring in a 1000 watt to finish the ladies

DIY. Built this version of it. I preferred it over ABS because with tubing the system is truly modular and you avoid roots clogging the plumbing as well.

We don't allow linking to other forums here but I'm going to let that one go... ;)

hey frank,

yeah, i saw that tutorial. the one thing i didn't like about it was that (i think) the tubing and fittings are too small. i would be worried that roots would clog up the fitting at the bottom of each 5 gal bucket. when i did dwc in a 5gal, my roots were as big as a basketball and took up the whole bucket pretty much.

I was told this build was very good at preventing clogs because of the ebb & flow fittings. I will let you know if I encounter problems.

Here's my next update. The K deficiency was resolved and damage is limited thankfully.

If they're on schedule I should be harvesting these on Dec 24 :D

The longer you veg the bigger the chance of getting clogs in rDWC; a plant vegged for two months and flowered for two more can easily fill a 5 gallon bucket up to the waterline. The roots would have to be packed in pretty well to stop the flow completely but even a major restriction can cause an overflow situation if the input becomes greater than drain ouput. With more plants vegged for a shorter time you'll probably be OK. ;)

I see a little purpling of stems and that could be a P def or an already corrected pH issue. Once the purple stems and stripes appear they don't always go away once fixed. As always, keep an eye out for signs that it's getting worse.

Hum, interesting. Wasn't aware the root ball would fill an entire 5 gal bucket in 4 months. I may have to revise some of the tub size and tubing.

I'll keep an eye out on the stems for purpling.

I doubt you'll be vegging for two months from clone if you're increasing your plant numbers under the screen but that is something to consider. Before they hit the screen you can rotate the netpots/plants to kind of "wind them up" a bit too... ;)
