Twin SS400W ScrOG grow

Postby FCGFrank » Sun Oct 13, 2013 11:35 am

This grow has been underway since early August. Am about to flip to flower. I started from seed, a rare multi-day power outage killed my first seedlings, etc. All explain the ludicrous length of vegging but once properly scrog'd it will pay off later.

Dinafem Royal Haze Feminized
Water is kept at 65F, 600PPM, pH 5.9
Ambient 85F/1500PPM/60rH, will be pushed to 90F like last time in flower

I'm doing a better job at keeping the area under the screen clean, especially in the case of LED usage since penetration is so low

Welcome back Frank!

So, what did you learn from last time and what are you doing different this time? :D

I think DWC is impractical and I'll be moving onto RDWC for the next grow because of its modularity. I was just too busy to build a DIY system fast enough to avoid too long of a downtime.

I'm keeping PPM lower to avoid accidental burns, I can't say I notice a difference in growth between 400 and 600 PPM at this stage.

Any light emitting objects will be removed from the tent once I go into bloom to avoid another leak and delays in flowering.

I felt I harvested my Kali Mist too late last time. I much prefer a cerebral high, so will opt to cut as soon as I see a single amber trich this time.

Other errors I've avoided making:

-I pre-shake myco powders in a gallon of water before adding to res to avoid gumming up the res like last time
-I've agressively purged the area under the screen since penetration is low anyway and I don't want any nutrients diverted to useless grow sites
-I've also had to remove leaves (strategically) to ensure light coverage across the entire screen. If I can push it out of the way that is my first option, but sometimes they're too big or take too much space, so away they went

Once I get one of these the grow will be 100% automated so it'll be a breeze.

Interesting doser, I wonder what the cost will be on their stuff.

Looking good, I see you switched to 3 plants instead of two so your screen should fill in a little faster. Don't forget to cover any light sources (like that grow-check meter) when you flip to 12/12. ;)

Is it just me or is this canopy less even than your last one? I assume you're still screen training as they start to flower...

It's definitely not less even than the lass canopy, just a lot fuller than last time. Some of the edges have outgrown the rest of the canopy if that is what you mean?

I've left enough height for even a 3x stretch so I should be good on that front, and I now have a 1/2hp chiller, so I no longer have issues there either. I almost switched the lights to a 1000HPS (on a motor) but thought it'd be overkill for a 2x4, so I'll use the 1000W on the next grow (White Russian).

Initially I wanted to use 4 plants for this grow but lost a seedling along the way. Now I have 3 enclosures running so as soon as I harvest this one, I'll be ready to flip bloom on my next grow immediately. Plus, should I use a seedling or clone, I'll have more ready to go.

I was about to let them grow vertically at their leisure at this point.

Must have just been the angles or that it's fuller on some edges. ;)

Yeah 1kw in a 2x4 is a LOT of light and you wouldn't need a mover to cover the 4' side either.

For me, clones are alway the right answer unless you're growing a single plant or for outdoor grows where size and variances wouldn't matter, YMMV.

Keep on keeping on... ;)
