Best lights to compliment LED

For the color spectrum wise what have you found the be the best setup with LEDS? I have read HID is a good complimenter but was wondering if there is any other ways to get the most of my setup... let me know what you think.

Also how many plants would you think a 400w solar storm and a 600 watt HID combined would be a safe amount?

There are too many variables to answer the first question easily. Every LED manufacturer claims that *their* spectra is the right spectra.

Actually I think the LED would be complementing the HID if the HID is more powerful. ;) Current LED lights lack penetration power so the best way to get the most out of any LED or LED+ combo is to keep the plants short. SOG/SCROG/short plants type grows.

The last question is another one with too many variables, it's like asking how many vehicles could be washed with 1000 gallons of water. Are they Mack trucks or Fiats? 1 wide/trained SCOG grow plant to 72 tiny plants in a high density SOG. It really depends on the growing style and personal preferences.

Hope that helps,

SME

Thanks for your interpretation of that lol, I am allowed to grow 12 plants... do you think I should do all 12 micro grows? with scrog? I am a beginner so I need some help figuring everything out. Thanks for your advice. What should I get light wise for 12 plants growin them short?

I don't recommend SOG or SCROG for new growers, both are a lot of work and more complicated. Before you decide how many plants you need to decide on the lights and size of the space. If you start from clones then you'll have a more even canopy if you start from seeds you never know what you're going to get until they get growing for a while.

If you were to put a 600w HPS and a SS400w in a 4x4 tent/room/area then I would start with 9 small plants vegged until they were 8-12" tall and then put into flower. You'll need to be sure to rotate your plants to keep them evenly covered.

If you were going with a single 1000w HPS I'd say 4 plants vegged until they were 18-20" tall and then flowered.

If you wanted pure LED you'd want a smaller tent or more light(s).

I'd also stick to Indicas and avoid Sativas.

YMMV...

I was thinking on pineapple chunk to start out and why not scrog? i gotta figure it out sometime.. same with stress training. I think I will do the 9 plants with 600w HID and 400w SS, you think that's enough light to get healthy plants? I also have a t5 envirogrow lights I could use for veg and compliment in flower? When's it the best to use the t8's on the solar storm?

Yeah, PC is mostly Indica and it's an 8 week flowering strain so that should work out OK but I don't know how it is for SCROG.

Yes, you may need to figure it out sometime but wouldn't it be better to figure out the basic growing issues before adding an even more steep learning curve? Wouldn't a simple plant and grow style, without all of the the training and pruning, be easier to start with?

If you are going to SCROG you wouldn't need 9 plants (try 4 or 5 maybe) although that would decrease the veg time needed to fill the screen. When growing from seed the plants need to veg for a while to mature before flowering.

CLW suggests the last 2 weeks for the UVB but you could go longer...

SME Thanks soo much for all the great info. I've been reading a lot of the post especially about the 400w solar storm and your insight has been extremely helpful. Thanks for the hard work. Now if you could wave your magic wand and get them to email me back as far as if I can join the program, you'd never get rid of me. (i know you have nothing to do with them)
