What I use with success

What I have been using are advanced led lights and they have been working great. I'm starting to here more and more LEDs getting even higher than 1 GPW, not necessarily with my brand but with LEDs in general. This is my first grow with these lights so don't want to give my gpw measure yet. I think after my next run with them I'll have them dialed in correctly to give a confident measurement.

Also testing the new solar storm and from what I can already tell is that the 5 watt diodes are much brighter. I'm considering doing a test run with these two brands head to head against one another. Keep an eye on my journal thanks

P.S.
Gpw scale is a good measure for how a light performs when all other variables are assumed to be dialed in. Other scales such as gram per day, and gram per foot, are more ways to measure a gardens efficiency overall...in my opinion.

I did some research on those Advanced Diamond lights and they look interesting but I can't say that I was impressed with the results from the youtube videos that I saw. That could just be a matter of the grower and growing style but I'm looking forward to the updates on your grows.

I like the idea of the 5 watt diodes but California Lightworks is the only company using them, as far as I know so we'll have to see how well they work. I'm looking forward to the future when LED grow lights use 10+ watt diodes. ;)

Grams per watt is fine for comparing one grow to the next assuming the same veg times and other factors but the more I think about it the less I'm sure it's the right measurement. How do you account for the various veg/flower times? How do you calculate the difference in g/w between a SOG with 3 days veg under 400w and 8 weeks flower under 1000w vs trees with 8 weeks veg under 1000w and 10 weeks flower under 1000w vs 5 weeks veg under 600w and 9 weeks flower under 600w? Watts per day/week/month? Just in flower? Maybe somebody should program a g/w calculator. ;) I'm starting to like the idea of taking total grams per year and dividing by averaged cost to get a $/gram for cost and gram per year for yield. I think we all want the most "bang for the buck."

I haven't had a chance to check out that brand of advance LED lights yet but will be worth a look. This time of year is kind of crazy with work and family and holidays. Yeah I too am really interested to see how you think the solarstorm compares to your other LEDs since I am a mini tree soil grower.

I agree that GPW is a safe way to calculate difference between styles and such, but as SME has pointed out there are so many other factors that change in style to style and grower to grower that it isn't 100% safe. That is why personally I am going with the equal number of plants under equal amount of lighting. My plants are the exact same ones (minus the Mazar which is brand new from another grower friend) that we have been using for over 3 years. That way once I total all up what I am getting I will be able to tell pretty easy just how close or far I am between the lighting systems.

Have you had previous experience growing with HID before you made the change to LED kip (keepitpurple)? If so, how do you feel about the change in lighting for you as a grower?
