LED Grow Light Forum

I am going to be setting up in a 3x3x6 foot grow tent. Now one of the biggest issues that i know that iam going to be faced with is heat. The environment in my grow room is cooler cause of the winter months and i haven't checked just yet what the actual room temp is. But i can give the guarantee that its not going to be 65 - 75 F or 30 c. So what i am trying to find out is. How much temp does the 400 SF give off.. Iam going to guess iam sitting at a 20-21 c temp at the moment. And i am trying to figure out if the 400w will be good enough to give off that extra heat to raise the temps up? Or any other suggestions would be fine. I have thought about using a Inferred Heater not inside the tent but out side and let the intake fan draw in the heat.

I'm celsius challenged but the SS400 will add some heat to the tent but depending on what you're growing it may not cover the whole 3x3 tent.

Heat rises so it'll be less efficient outside the tent unless it's enough to raise the ambient of the room that the tent is in.

You could go with the bigger SS800w which will add more heat *and* cover a 3x3 easily...if you need it. Then you might not need a heater at all and the electricity cost you would have spent on heating can go to lighting.

yea that's kinda all the things i have been thinking about as well .. to raise the ambient temp out side the tent is kinda easy to do... its the inside that i figure i would try work with first.. even is the heat rises from the 400w . I even thought about using little oscillating fans to direct the heat back down.... In so many way i wanted the led cause i figured it was more of a challenged after everything i have read. which iam all for. Problem is tho .. i cant get the heat like you would out of a HID... Actually ... I ve been searching and i cant find the question to ... With only that size of tent and 1 plant inside. At what height do you set the 400w to to veg...... If i ready correctly for Flowering stages give or take about 14-16 about the plant canopy ? Does that sound correct?

Cannabis prefers temps closer to 80F. In flower, the night time temps can be 10-15F less and it actually can be a good thing.

With the SS series, they use the more powerful 5w diodes but I'd still start flowering at around 12" max; less with a SOG style. LED lights just don't have good penetration. You can fit more than than just one in a 3x2 area though...

haha! agreed ! i cant put more in the tent.. But with the cooler temps iam up against. I figured i would rather guiny pig one plant then several trying to dial in everything. There was one fellow in the forums here that did a journal. I cant find the post but i know its here . It was a recent grow. Anyway i really studied the grow he did cause its very similar to what i want to accomplish. However.. with the SF at what height is optimum for Vegging? i still cant find a answer on that one

You CAN run 1 plant if that's all you want to run, that's up to you, but the shorter they are the more you COULD run.

Both the SS and SF use 5w diodes and CLW suggests 18-24" above the canopy, many inch it closer a little at a time to see what works best for them but they are powerful enough to bleach the tops of the plants if you get them too close. The closer they are the less area they cover too, which may not be an issue if you're only growing one.

my grow room is 12 sq ft. the grow room is within a room that is below grade so it stays low 60'sF. my grow room without the exhaust fan running will get to 75F. so the ss400 roughly raised the temp a good 15 degrees for me. my grow room is probably a bit better insulated than just a tent so it might be less for you.

Nice thank you very much! lol that has been the answer that i have been looking for. For the last 3 weeks lol but thats good .. even if i can get a temp raise of even 8-10 id be happy!!!!!

Don't forget CO2... If you exhaust to bring in CO2 you'll also be removing the heat. If you don't exhaust to hold in the heat, you'll need to supplement CO2.

For sure! I got one of those Co2 bag things that's supposed to be good for 3 months so I use that. I did some temp readings over the last 2 weeks waiting for my stuff to show up. And i came to the conclusion that i should be able to exhaust in intervals with out losing much heat yet keeping the temps i need! And now that it's all here it's getting every thing set up and running and start my grow finally!
