Yeah, it's not nute burn. I hardly nute. I use General Organics BioThrive line at half strength and only every other feeding. In between, I sometimes use BudSwell, which is a low nute guano tea, or more often just plain RO water, which I let run out the bottom. It's all in soil, so it's pretty well buffered. Only the parts of the plant that were directly under the hot air got crisped, the parts of the plants that were not under hot air were fine. Nute burn gets the whole plant. Live and learn. Yup, hot air out the sides of the SS and it draws air in from on top, where the air is hottest. Kinda backwards if you ask me.

Yeah, it's a little hard to tell with pictures sometimes, especially with LED lighting. Have you measured the temps at the side vents? I wonder if they all do that or if they just put the fans in backwards on your light maybe? :P

I assumed that's the way it was designed, but yes, perhaps I got a manufacturing fluke of reversed fans!

Calling any other SolarStorm users... Does your unit blow hot air out the sides like mine?

I'll try checking the temps on the air shooting out the vents later, but my estimate would be around 140 F degrees... it's hair dryer hot.

From what I understand, the air circulation on your system is correct. Keep in mind the SS is dissipating 650W of power. The air coming out the side vents will be "hot". You can expect the heat sink to be around 10-15 degrees C above ambient.

My understanding is that the factory is working on some modifications based on feedback received to help with this issue.

Thanks for setting the record straight SSF, I'm looking forward to seeing what those modifications will look like. :D

heat burn... interesting... the fans on top suck air in and the hot air definitely vents out of the front.... my two bigger plants under the vents have been suffering.... the plants on the back side of the light have no similar issues which has been confusing....first I thought I over fertilized, then I thought I under fertilized and under watered.... now perhaps speculating it may be heat stress.... an idea may be to have the louvers of the vents point the hot air in an upward direction or reverse the flow and suck air in through the vent and out the top with two fans.... I will rotate plant locations on the floor to see if there is any improvement....

an update from me regarding heat from the SolarStorm burning my plants.... in a word NO.... the light vents both front and back with the hot air.... my issue has been the bigger plants and are front only.... so I am back to my original reason, I have f-ed the water and nutrients.... but I really believe plants in AirPots have a bit of a different set of requirements to adjust.... so anyway the SolarStorm is really performing.... I am anxious to go to bloom....Happy 4th everyone....

I agree that it would make more sense to exhaust from the highest point and intake from the lowest point. Are u guys exhausting the heat from your growspaces already tho? I feel like that makes the biggest difference compared to an 80mm pc fan... Also check out my thread, I used a piece of r board to create a false ceiling which reflects light back down and sits below all of the fans and exhaust ducts on the light so all heat is directed up and away from your flowers. Just an idea but its working like a charm for me.

My tent vents from a back corner location...have a 4" fan on 24 hrs... Also a 6" fan in the tent ciculating air...temps are fine using the SolarStorm.... No heat issues....my issues are self inflicted.....
