SolarStorm 400 Supercloset cab HELP...

Hey guys,

I been battling for days to control my temps in my cab.
I am at a loss of words and cant seem to figure out how to get my temps down.

Tuesday I installed the SolarStorm 400 then the next day I look at the temps and its nearly high of 94.

I then decided to add a second carbon filter with a 120CFM fan on the Supercloset and that didnt do anything temps rised to nearly 84 with in only 30 mins running with the doors closed...

So I then put my 6' 402 CFM fan in my attic and cut a hole in the ceiling to drop a 6' line down.

I then took the 120 CFM fan and unplugged it, and stuck it out on the back wall so I have something for the 6' to attach to...However with the 402 sucking air the blades on the 120 CFM was pushing air into the cab instead of sucking air.

I decided to place a 4inch to 6inch drop down to attach my 6' hose to and the 4' mouth sits on the inside of the cab to get fresh air....

With it being set up and no speed controller I thought my plants were being hurt by to much oxygen passing through the cab...So I placed a speed controller on & my temps went to 83 with room temp at 78...Now my temps at full speed of the 402 is 80-82 constant with a high of 87

I then noticed some heat stress on plants, I just put another 120CFM on top of the cab blowing air in but I dont think this is going to work as heat rises and my cool air should be coming from the bottom of the cab and allow it to rise up...

ANY ADVICE anyone can give me is deeply helpful. I dont want to admit to defeat but I don't think I can run the Solar Storm 400 in the cab, I have tried everything to keep temps at 80 or under but at this point my plants are taking a beating from high temps...Please help thank you

I'll attach photos of my issues and what I've done thus far and I'll let you guys help.

PH 5.3
PPM 1050
RH 44%-55%
Light Height - 20-23 inches
Water Temp 78.4

Welcome to the forums!

1 6" 400+cfm fan can cool 2x1000w HID lights so it should certainly be enough with your space. Let's go over some basics:

1) Intake at the bottom.
2) Exhaust out the top.
3) You can't get too much oxygen by exchanging the air.
4) You don't need a small 120cfm booster fan with your larger 6" exhaust fan. (you could use the smaller one on the intake but passive intake should work too.)

You could also lower the ambient temps to help draw down the cab temps.

While the SS400w will add heat to a closed space it should be easy to deal with your fans...

Hope that helps...

I have been talking with Brandon from Cali Lights for a few days now---I am trying to do everything to make this work.

So at the top where my hole use to be for my air cooled tube I put a fan blowing air into the cab I figured maybe it might blow some cool air in? Was this a foolish thing to think?

I could take a fan on the out side of the cab towards the bottom and blow air up into the cab but not sure if that will do anything, my house temp right is 77 and cab is 80 so what should I try to solve my heat issue

What photos would you like to see so you can understand my set up better.

Brandon knows his stuff, he's a nice guy...

The air is cooler at the bottom of a room since heat rises. The intake should be at the bottom. Circulation fan(s) inside the space help keep the temps even, top to bottom.

There's nothing wrong with 80F temps at the canopy level.

He mentioned if I have a 402 CFM fan that it might be taking to much oxygen out so I figured I would slap that top fan in at the top of the cab just to push extra air in the cab. Regardless with the 120 CFM fan I have negative pressure any which way you splice the cake.

Would it be worth blowing air up into the intakes toward the bottom of the cab---as you can see in the photo of back of my cab.

I already have 2 fans right now, should I try and lower one of the fans and point it upwards so it pushes hot air up?

What else can I do? I already have 2 fans inside the cab.

It's not possible to remove too much Oxygen by exchanging air. Air exchanges are for removing Oxygen and replacing CO2. Plants use CO2 and produce Oxygen. The only time "too much Oxygen" should become a problem is in a sealed room without intake/exhaust fans.

Passive intakes are fine as long as you have a large enough exhaust. You can try it both ways and see which works better for you.

Yes, one circulation fan (usually oscillating fans) at the bottom pushing up and one at the top pushing down is good for circulation.

I'll attempt to try that when I get home, my plants right now have taken a beaten from the 2 days of high temps.

How long will it take for my plants to heal from the heavy heat?

which fan would you suggest that I blow air up into the passive intake?

It shouldn't take long to see improvement once you get the temps under control.

Once you put a fan on the intake it's no longer passive. I'd use the 120 cfm fan that you already have for the intake, if anything...

I have 2 elbows that are passive intakes... one at the bottom, and one towards the middle, but I dont have any place to actually bolt one of the 120 CFM fans unless I take 6' hose and clamp it to the fan and drop it 2 feet down so its only 4 inchs below my plants so the fan isnt blowing on my plants....

What do you think?

or having air being blown in at the top of the cab isnt gonna make then the air being blown in from the top but having air dropped down a dryer hose right under my DWC bucket so then the air comes up
