LA Confidential..first time from clones !

Hey all, I'm back for more fun!

Just as I was settling in for an enjoyable Christmas, Santa Claus knocked on my door and gifted me with 5 young clones!! 3 sweet healthy LA Confidential ladies, an ok looking Skunk*Northern Lights cross, and a small, sickly Liberty Haze...nice surprise here for sure. I don't even know anything about the brown sponge they are in...they used rooting gel....I was told to foliar spray RO water and keep the sponge wet and warm until all the roots sprouted outside of the sponge and then can plant...

Is this right? I know that light isn't good for roots, so do I need to keep the sponges in the dark? Can/Should I plant these now? And what do you think of the Liberty Haze? Yellow limp leaves..is she dying, or is there something I can do?

And off we go!

Curt, you going to mainline, LAC is ready to start that, roots show its ready to plant.
The medium they are in looks like jiffy pots, I use Root Riot pots, very close to those. You can pant them in any medium you want.

Good luck on this grow, hope you do a mainline, you will love it. At day 38 mine are driving me mad. LOL

Peace out my friend,

GR

Hey GR!

Yeah, I've got a lot to think about really quickly..given the surprise, I had to simply roll these girls back into the same setup with no changes at all.

Simple set up like last time. I adjust that fan up and down, along with the platform the plants are on, as they grow!

Here are the 5 clones and one special delivery.

And the girl I am most concerned about, the Liberty Haze...not only was she yellowing, but the top growth looks to be turning necrotic...don't know what I can do to save her...

Finally, my personal surprise, the single seed (so far anyways) found in my last grow sprouted and broke ground today! Looking good so far...Its either White Rhino, Blueberry, or a cross between the two, which I may christen Blue Rhino!!

I've got Botanicare Pure Grow and Cal-Mag here now, I've read I shouldn't feed them until clones are fully rooted, so I'm just foliar spraying with RO...after a good soak when I transplanted them. They've been alive with me for 7 days now...

As always, any thoughts, observations comments or advice are always welcomed!

Hey GR...in regards to the mainlining experiment....I'm still torn about flm or mainlining...I really enjoyed the size/bulk of the main colas on my last grow...an additional complication this time around is that I have 6 plants, with 4 different strains (unplanned)...so timing the flip to 12/12 could be difficult if I don't mainline all of them! And they may all respond so differently in terms of recovery time and growth rates...

Still thinking about options...I am considering mainlining them all, and flipping when they are just 8-10" tall, try to keep a level canopy...Depending on how many make the transplant transition, I may top all of them to create 4 tops on each....so hard...plants grow so differently strain to strain!

I've been reading up about scrog...SME has recommended that method a few times as a way to utilize this light the best...I think my long term goal is to combine traits of all these methodologies to get the best results attainable. Maybe a mainlined scrog...think of all the "mainlined flowers" equidistant from the light

Thanks for the advice as always....what a great hobby!

How are they looking now?

I'd say SOG and then ScrOG are probably the two best methods for LED cannabis growers.

Hey SME, glad to see you "back" here! Hoping your recovery is progressing well for you....

Here are my girls...one shot of each, with a closeup of the sickest one, the Liberty Haze. Seeing yellowing on a few of them...and I THINK I see some new grow starting up on the Liberty...the rest have shown growth in this past week.

LA 1...really healthy looking, noticeable growth..

Foliar spraying with RO, 6.8 ph corrected..that's it....the grow medium has some perlite and some FFHF I had left over from the first batch. Should I start feeding them now? I'm not sure if their roots are developed enough yet...

What do you think?

Thanks,

Curt,
IMO you should start feeding a bit ago, I would start with .25 to .33 amount called for.
I just started feeding my ladies this week at below .25% of regular amount.

Good luck on this grow.

Yeah, if they're rooted feed them, if they're actively vegging you can increase it.

Back from the experience that is Christmas these days...thought I'd give an update for the end of week 3.

This is my first experience with clones, so I need to ask your advice about when to "throw in the towel", and cull the crop.

Three LA Confidential clones, 2 have remain unchanged, and I believe are slowly dying with just a little new growth. When compared to the healthy LA lady, it is ridiculous...she's ready to transplant again!

Same situation with Liberty Haze..a little slow growth. Also, can you see the soil surface turning green? Never saw that before..

How long do I wait to yank them? Do they look like they have any chance? To me, I think I am keeping them on "life support" with foliar spraying, and that there is no root development happening...

I definitely want to try to keep them shorter this time around...I'm thinking one of two options..1) Flipping to 12/12 within the next 2 weeks, as 2 of them are nearing 8" in height, or 2) Perform some topping or minor mainlining (like 4 colas instead of 8)...and give the Blue Rhino time to catch up.

Based on your advice, I am feeding RO with Botanicare's line up of Pure Blend Pro Grow, Cal-Mag plus, and PH up to 7.2 every 3rd day, with foliar watering 2-3x/daily. I started with 1/3 of recommended levels, and worked my way up to full strength.

RH between 40-50%, Temps pretty steady at 72...I can raise the temps a bit to about 80 pretty soon.

Any thoughts on the clones? If I pull them out of this grow, I'm thinking I would at least top the LA and Skunk, and wait for the Blue Rhino to catch up a bit.

Based on my experience with the last crop, I am hoping to keep the plants shorter this time around.

Thanks,
ICB

Those don't look very happy.

7.2 pH is way too high, unless your run-off is testing *very* low, in that case you should have fixed the pH of the soil before you added the clones. Full strength bontanicare might be too hot if they're not rooted and actively growing.

Were the clones rooted before you put them in the soil or did you just take a cutting and stab it into that soil without rooting it first? You can gently dig the soil away from the roots from the top/sides and see if they're rooted, if you don't know.

The green is just algae, you may be watering too much, let it dry out between watering/feedings.

You should try to save them, if for no other reason than figuring out what the problem was. If you have to start over you can but it'd be nice to know what went wrong first. I'm guessing pH lockout on this one but I don't have all the needed info yet... ;)
