Thanks SME,

I am liking these coir/Perlite Hempy buckets, post more pics soon. I need to figure out how to get the pictures below 1 m while taking them, not have to re-size each picture.

Camera settings maybe...or there's an app for that. ;)

Day 30 from germ in Root Riots 7/14, day 25 from putting the sprouted beans in Solo cup Hempy's 7/19, and day 13 from transplanting from Solo cups to 2 gallon Coir/Perlite Hempy's 7/31. Growth has slowed some but the roots are beginning to reach the resivoir so I expect rapid grow to pick up soon.
The plants spend the daylight hours outside and the nights in the cabinet.
Here are a few pics from yesterday.

How many weeks before the plants start showing first signs of sex?

Thanks,

Those look big enough to start training. :D

Time varies but typically 4+weeks and not until they're sexualy mature. If you're mainlining again, you should have time. ;)

Yes, I do have bit of time but they are growing very well now, I want to have 6 or 7 good nodes and choose the best node below them that is the most symmetrical to start my manifold. I am at the start of node 5 now, I did remove two lower nodes when I transplanted so I could get more stem under the growing medium. I put rooting compound along the stem before I planted to stimulate rooting along the stem. Did that last grow and was very impressed with the root mass that came off the area.

Now just the sex thing so I can reduce the number of plants to three or four.

Thanks,

GR

hey GR,

i always thought you had to put them under 12/12 to positively sex a plant. once they show, then go back to veg mode.

Rocky,

Interesting thing this morning.
I am attempting to sex the plants so starting Friday I began 12/12. I put the plants outside yesterday and when I brought them in I put them in the cabinet and turned the light back on. Well it ran for about an hour before shutting down for the night. The lights came back on at 7am this morning and I went to check them at about 8:30, when I opened the door to the cabinet my glasses immediately fogged over. Damn it was hot in there, I had forgotten to turn the exhaust fan back on. I went in the house and checked the remote thermometer and the temp in the cabinet was 106, the leaves were standing straight up pointing to the top of the cabinet.
Taken at 8:30 AM this morning.

I turned the exhaust fan on and the temps have dropped back down into the high 70's and humidity is around 45%. What was amazing was the way the leaves were standing straight up, cool to see and I don't think there will be any damage to the plants.

I will be watering today with straight pH'ed water. When I watered/feed last the solution going in was 750 ppm and the pH was 5.62. Coming out of the drain hole the ppm was 1150 to 1200 but the pH was in the low 5's. So I am going to give the a good flush, will flush till the ppm from the drain is less than 800 then begin feeding again with the next watering.

Here is a pic of the ladies(?) before going back in the cabinet last evening. From the 12 o'clock position clockwise is C 1 through C5 with the WW in the center.

Don't believe there is any damage to the plants, but guess I was too stupid when I put the plants back in the cabinet.

Holy cow, if I walked in and saw my plants "reaching for the sky" like an old west stickup, I'd flip! They do look just fine though in the second pic... relaxed and relieved. I did not know that they pointed straight up when they're heat stressed like that.

I think you're totally right though, if they've only been exposed for an hour and a half, I'm sure they'll be just fine.

I also think that everyone has forgotten to turn on at least 1 environmental system after a power failure before. Heck I did it on a DWC system once. Several days with no aeration in the water, no cooling in the tent... she was very hot and very sad when I came back, but she sprang back to life when the environmental systems were flipped on again. I'm not sure how long they were off, but I know it was a matter of days as I was out of town for a week when this happened.

I am really looking forward to the results of your mainline effort! The last plant you did like that looked great. I've been interested in the technique, so I'd like to see your progress.

As far as sexing, as you know I am newer around here, so take this with a grain of salt, and perhaps SME or someone else can verify... I was reading Jorges Cervantes this morning on pre-sexing. He states that 4 weeks old of vegetative growth (plant is 6 weeks from seed) is when all plants develop pre-sex characteristics at the 4th to 5th branch internodes. "For males, the pre-flowers emerge behind the stipule at the fourth to fifth branch internodes and generally do not turn into full flowers."

Again, I'm newer and have never sexed a plant from seed, so take that with a grain of salt. Or a half-cup.

I forgot to add that he uses this method to determine sex of plants without inducing flowering. I am not sure how/if this technique would work for mainlining as you need to train early.

MC,

Thanks for the info.

Here is the tutorial for Nug's Mainlining thread.

Enjoy.
