hey GR,

was just thinking about your cabinet and the new HPS and had an idea if you're interested.

what if you mounted the cool tube vertically in the center of the cabinet and located the plants around it? not sure if you have enough room but if you did you could still use the SS400 above the plants along with the HPS and get the best of both worlds. you should have no problem cooling the HPS at all. could probably get the plants within 6 inches or closer I would think to the cool tube.

lookin' good so far!

Not a bad idea, but not for this grow. Trying to many new things already.

But I can envision a trellis set up where the plants could be move regularly to get both sides of trellis light. Will give this more thought.

yeah, a few of the ones I saw had a round wire fence cage with the bulb in the middle. then you train your plants to grow up into the fence like a vertical screen of green. it was pretty cool looking. since you are so good at training plants you would have no problems.

post some pix when you get it set up. i'm curious to see how it looks.

Hey guys....a while back, before I had a clue, I took 4 fluorescent-tube work lights (4 ft. long, 2 tubes each fixture)...the "sunlight" bulbs....so 2 bulbs were placed vertically in each corner of the closet, 8 bulbs in total.

Miracle grow soil, plain well water, no fans, no food, PH, RH, nothing. All I knew to do was switch to 12/12 to flower.

I gotta say, it was pretty impressive results...icky sticky buds from bag seeds that were 10-15 years old...

Just saying, there are a lot of ways to get this thing done...

1978, central Texas, summer.

Bag seed, pure Afgan, buddy was special forces there, brought them to me. One female that was planted next to 100 + bag seed columbian. Cut them all down when I saw the Afgan was a fem.

Grown out doors, in the woods, hand carried water daily.

She turned out to be 6 ft tall, and almost as round, 22 oz. Had a get together a few yrs back with a bunch of college buddies, as we sat around one evening someone said what is the best drug you have taken. Well the was some coke stories, ecstacity, opium and other minor stuff. One of the folks there when it came his turn, he said with out a doubt it is Gary Green, the Afgan I grew. It was just amazing, nasty skunky smell, beautiful buds, gold and reds. And I was a for sure two hit wonder, sit you on your ass for a long time.

I had one of my class mates on a day of golf smoke some, two hits and he had to quit playing. I loved it. I gave over a have pound to a dear friend who at 33 was suffering from terminal cancer, his wife to this day praises what it did for him during that time.

So I guess sometime you can pull a rabbit out of the hat even as a novice. I do still have a few fan leaves from that plant if someone can just rejuvenate them.

Today I installed the new Cool Tube/400W HPS and new 6" Phresh filter. I did not install the new 6" fan, wanted to see how my old 4 inch fan will work with the new setup. I am pulling air into the cabinet via a 4' line the 6" filter is attached to the 6" cool tube the stepped down from the 6" cool tube to the 4" fan and the air exits the cabinet via a 4 inch duct.
I may at some point install the 6" fan but it is noisy and so far the 4" is keeping the cabinet at 81 degrees and 51% humidity, and that is better than it was doing with the big LED.

I am 20 days into 12/12 so curious to see how the new light effect the grow. It puts out a massive amount of light, and I have it at about 12 inches above the top of the canopy. The temperture at the top of the canopy is 83, heck I think I can get the light closer. Any opinions on the height I should have the light from the plants. Going to research it tonight.

Peace out,

GR

hey GR,

do a google search for HPS penetration charts. i couldnt find a pasteable one to put here but ...

400 watt is optimal range at 6 to 21 inches away. closer than 6 is too brigh and farther than 21 is too dark.

Hey GR,

Ah, the summer of 1978...was a good one for me as well. Very sorry to hear about your friend...I know that the years that go by help, but you never forget. It's great that you have good memories to look back on.

You might experiment with that larger fan and see if it drops your temps by better cooling the light a bit too. 83 is pushing it without adding CO2...imho.

What range should I maintain for my growroom humidity and temperature?

YMMV... ;)

Hi guys,

This is an interesting link here...and much lower temps than I remember seeing recommended...I always thought that under 90 was the maxim...and a nightly 15 degree drop was optimum, not to go lower than 70 at night...

In fact, it would be nearly impossible to follow this guy's advice if I read it correctly...if you stay between 70-80 degrees, wouldn't you freeze your plants out with his recommended 10-20 degree drop with night time temps in the high 50's - low 60's?

more than one way to do things and all that, but this seems way too cool for me...
