SS 440 lens discolouration????

So I have been running two SS440's for a few weeks now. The panel that the lights shine through has splotches of discolouration directly underneath the lights. It's hard to describe what it looks like and taking pics into the light don't show the marks very well.

Has anybody else had this happen? Will it lower the intensity or performance of the light?

Hi Gquebed,

this is very unusual. Are the spots on the inside surface or the outside surface of the plexiglass lens? I imagine you tried wiping it using windex? Brillianize (by Kleenmaster) is another product that works great for cleaning plexiglass. I've typically seen water/residue spots that should come out easily when wiped. I would not use anything abrasive as this would reduce transparency.

Overall from what you're describing, if the spot don't show up in photos, I doubt there will be any appreciable reduction in light output. But if you're really concerned, send an email to support@californialightworks.com with a description and preferably a photo (try your best) and see what they say.

was it on the inside of the lens?

if so, i had the same problem. i had to send it back to CLW to have them clean it from the inside.

my guess of what caused it was that i was using well water in my humidifier (during veg) and it deposited a mineral (salt, calcium, etc) from the 2 top fans sucking in the humidified air.

Sorry for the late reply. It took a long while for my post to show in this forum and in the meantime I got a hold of CLW support. The discoloration was indeed on the inside of the lens. I managed to get pics of it and sent them to CLW. They said it was from humidity and offered to clean it up once this grow was finished.

It's great that CLW has been so responsive (this is my second issue) and supportive, but I do think that this is an issue that can be corrected in future production.

Yes it was and CLW has offered to clean it up once my grow is finished.
