i'm still liking the SS, though the sound of the fan is still disappointingly loud. I'm going to have to set something up so i can inspect the plants under normal light. i'm having trouble identifying potential problems. the leaves on one of the blues looked brownish under the light, but fine when i put it under normal light.

all the plants were about the same size when i put them under the solar storm. the afghans seem to be thriving, but the blues seem to be struggling. once i get the halide up, i'll put some of the blues under there and see if they like that better.

So i put a few more plants under the SS today. But i noticed that one of the older plants had holes in some of the leaves! i looked all over for signs of bugs or catapilars or poltergeists, but found nothing. Hub has been doing the watering the last couple of nights, and it occurs to me that he may not be too careful about keeping water off the leaves. So i'm beginning to think they are burn holes from water droplets. Don't know enough yet about light spectrum stuff. Is it possible the specttum the SS puts out is particularly susceptible to burning like this?

Anyway, i cut off the four the leaves that had holes. Pics of 2 are attached. Would love to hear any input or advice on this. All the other babies seem fine.

*** OH NO!!!*** i can't upload the pics. i'm getting an error message that says: Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached.

I can't imagine it being a water burn hole but technically water droplets could act like a magnifying glass. Larger lights would do it too if that were the case. I'd still guess "insect that you haven't identified yet" but it's hard to tell right now. ;)

ah, seems i can upload pics now... these are the holes i found in a couple of leaves on one plant. i cut the leaves off and no more holes have developed, so i guess i'l just shrug it off til it happens again

Not the best pics in the world but that looks like insect damage to me. It's certainly not due to water droplets and light. Check the underside of the leaves and check the soil, you may need magnification too... :(

Thanks...i'm looking and looking. have a 30x loupe but still havent found anything. no new holes since i cut those two off, but am continuing to be vigilant.

in the meantime, what i have noticed most about the SS is the way the plants are vegging. they aren't growing tall, but they have nodes developing all up and down the stem. so many in fact that it would be hard to figure out where to take a clone from. will try to get some pics tonight.

i'm assuming that this is a good thing and an indication that the plants are liking the light they are getting.

Embeth, welcome to the forum!

As far as yield goes. The buds from the HPS are gonna be a little bigger, but not as dense as the LEDs. I've also noticed the LED buds are a bit stronger in THC. Of course this is all strain dependent, and has a lot to do with your growing skills. I grow for a dispensary, and have brought them the same strain grown under each light, and the LED stuff is always the first to go.

Here's a bud I had a couple crops ago. (Bio Diesel Mass) It weighed a quarter pound wet! (38g dry) Happy growing. h

Forgot to add, I usually just use a clip on light with 2 100w cfl's to take pics. Its not possible to get a good pic under the LED, especially in flower mode. Peace. h

Since whatever it was ate through the leaf veins too, it's definitely not from water. You already cut off the leaves so you could test pure PH-UP/DOWN to see if that's strong enough to eat holes like that but it sure looks like insect damage to me and it could be something bigger that got in there. It may not be small.
